Message 884773 - Posted: 13 Apr 2009, 1:27:23 UTC

I noticed that messages that talk about Windows editions are listed as "Editon".

As in...

4/12/2009 5:49:58 PM||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional x86 Editon, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00)

I know it's silly, etc. Perhaps someone can fix it.

I believe that information is verbatim as supplied by Windows itself.

I believe that information is verbatum as supplied by Windows itself.

I thought so as well, but apparently not. Yours show Editon as well. I'll forward it to David.

Thinking about it more, the OS could be just reporting a code number which then has to be translated into text by a website lookup table.

Just checked in Boinc

12/04/2009 12:33:13 PM OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Home x86 Editon, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00)
its misspelled there too. So Boinc must be the source for the website text.

where do you find that file... I don't see it on my system.

I wonder if correcting the description could create a bunch of new hosts when you upgrade Boinc????

Yes, it will.

That could create a riot in the Boinc community.

I'm not so sure, John. Since it didn't do it earlier, when we went from Edition to Editon (and it started a long time ago, probably as far back as 8 months ago, as far as I can see. It was already in the old hostinfo_win.C source code), we didn't get new hostIDs either. So I don't see why going from Editon to Edition will then do it.

I think the only sure way to get a new hostID these days is to install BOINC clean, or completely change OS, aka from Windows to Linux.

I keep editing this post. ;-)
Just had a quick chat with Rom. He will fix it in the source code tomorrow.
According to him we won't be getting a new hostID either with a newer client. That really only happens on a clean install and change to a whole new OS.

So there's no trouble with the new client. My hostID numbers didn't change.
Alpha 6.6.23 with the fix included can be found here for 32bit Windows and here for 64bit Windows.

Confirmed.

Website corrected the spelling as soon as I forced Boinc to update SETI.
