With the BONIC release today, and CUDA being allowed on OSX now, when can I expect to see my 8800GT helping to crunch Seti units?
When I launch, in my messages it says "Can't load library libcudart" is this normal?

Now, no, hold on. BOINC 6.6.20 may have been released on the Mac as well, but that doesn't say that CUDA is released on it. BOINC 6.6.20 just has CUDA support for all platforms.

Once you see a CUDA application here in the list of Seti applications for your operating system, then it's 'released'.

As for the error message, CUDA isn't all done automatically by BOINC. You will still need to have drivers installed that enable the CUDA part on your videocard. These drivers aren't easily available. The Beta toolkit and SDK downloads are available on the CUDA Beta site, which will probably contain the drivers, but that's a bit of a hassle for something that won't do you any good afterwards anyway, since there is no native CUDA app to download from Seti for your OS.

OK, that makes sense. So while support for CUDA is now available on the mac client. The individual apps, be it SETI, or anything, still need to be updated to take advantage of this. I'm guessing that will take some time.

Cuda cards still aren't seen by Boinc. And given Matt's recent post in Technical news, we can wait another couple of months as all the efforts are going into KNITPICKER.

Its actually supposed to be NTPCKR, but its read as Nitpicker, and it stands for the Near-Time Persistency ChecKeR, which has been a long time in the making. The functionality is supposed to allow participants to view all the strongest signal candidates and where they lie on a star map, which is a feature many people have been asking for for a while now.

[Edit] Oh, and the reason why it is so important to focus on right now (other than it being a "must have" feature that has been missing for quite some time) is that SETI@Home really wanted to have it available in time for their 10th Anniversary which happened this month (10 years since they opened account creation to the public).

Interesting. I had forgotten that the 10th Anniversary was coming up. I myself in a few days will celebrate my 10th with the project, April 28th 1999. I was one of the beta testers of the Seti Classic app for Mac. Back in the day on my badass Powermac G3/266 with a crazy 256MB of ram.
