Hello friends...

Well it's that time again. For those in the US, Uncle Sam has come a calling but hopefully gave you a bit back this year!

Seti@Home needs help. We've all been way too aware of the recent server issues and the need for upgraded hardware and even a new staff person who help keep a foot applied to said servers.

If you choose not to participate that is entirely your choice.

For our friends not in the US, hopefully your situation will allow you to participate.

Any non-challenge posts or flames will be hidden or moved.

Please post details (amount) of your donation here for tracking purposes (if you are comfortable with it).

This challenge will last from now until April 18th (a few days after Tax Day Deadline for the late filers). At that time we'll look at totals and have a grand announcement!

Any questions on donations can usually be answered by checking out the Seti Donation Page

So how generous was Uncle Sam to you?? SHOW US!!! GIVE A LITTLE TO SETI! LET'S SHOW ERIC AND THE STAFF A LITTLE TAX-TIME LOVIN!!!

$25 from me-are you willing to beat that?

(Will unsticky for now but may sticky if response is slow)

I pledge $1,000.

Come on everybody, let's get this going!

The SETI@home Project is more fun when it is working. Let's all chip in and get it working.

If you think about it, there are lots of good reasons to give...

Have you learned about computers from your experience with S@H?

Have you made friends in the forums?

Have you ever described your experience here to family or friends?

Have you received FREE software upgrades from S@H and BOINC and Lunatics, etc.?

Have you received FREE help of an intelligent nature from super-experts here?

Have moderators tolerated my (I mean, your) newbie mistakes in the forums?

Have you heard SETI@home mentioned in a movie, a lecture, a joke, a magazine, a newspaper, a conversation, or on a screensaver? You are part of this!

Now you can say "I do scientific analysis on data from the Arecibo Radio Telescope in Puerto Rico."

Where else do you rub elbows with honest-to-gosh Research Scientist Eggheads who need your help to make the project a success?

Have you felt joy when S@H does well, or maybe sadness when S@H breaks? (You are emotionally involved - how nice in this lonely world.)

Are you a joiner? No? Neither are most of us here. Somehow, SETI@home has brought us together from all over the freaking world.

Well, if you've ever spent money on anything because of your interest in computers (and I know you have), isn't The SETI@home project one of the more interesting aspects of your computer curiosity? Won't you remember this experience 20 years from now?

Isn't that worth at least $25?

So I assume the "tax time" challenge idea is to use your tax refunds (or portion thereof) to donate to SETI? Since I owe over $1500 I think it may be a bit rough for me. :)

Plus I gave over $100 a month ago.

I am very sorry to say I cannot donate at this time as much as I would like to. I am lucky to keep my electricity on at the moment. I wish I could donate programming time to the cause. At least if I run out of units my electric bill will decrease. If situation improves I will send some bucks your way.

The budget for this year was supposed to be $548,200 and there are 52 weeks in a year. That's over $10000 per week.

Although those who read and post here are few and cannot be expected to supply the whole amount for the year, I think we ought to be able to at least do a week's worth while a donation drive is active.

It is just after midnight the morning of April 10 in Berkeley. I've just put in a $5000.00 donation, can the rest of you match it before the end of April 17?
