I have one computer that receives AP workunits. It doesn't like them! I must stop Seti to use the computer for anything else. Is there a way for that computer to NOT receive AP units but keep the other SETI stuff coming? Thanks. BB (Sorry if this is in the wrong place)

Hi, Ageless, ;) ,don't you get tired of hearing the same questions, over and over again

The answer is so obvious, in your account.

Sorry, I don't want to be rude, just slipped my mind and (big) mouth :( .

Not at all. Not everyone has the option to see other people's signatures on, nor do they specifically know I have a FAQ answered on that. :-)

You're absolutely right and I was just teasing :)

How would this forum be if 1.5 Million people visited it once a day, probably a mess and a constant overload of messages and server behavior.

And it is a great thing, The WiKiPedia

You've done a great job, working on this wikipedia, it has a big amount of usefull information, now also regarding SETI@home and Astro Pulse.
The use of different O.S. platforms and the use of optimized applications.
CUDA devices, etc. , etc. , in short: a complete guide howto manage the IN and OUT's of BOINC {or whatever ;^)} tip of the hat to you, Sir Ageless!

And I mean what I say, a very good job indeed!

Well, frankly, it's not so obvious as to how to turn off AP units for a specific (set of) computer(s) on one account, now is it?

My older computers here choke on AP units, but my quad-core + dual GPU-laden boards EAT UP AP units just fine.

As it is now I have to manually stop/start the projects on each computer, switch my preferences, start up BIONC again on the proper set of machine, and then switch back to "defaults."

Any BETTER (per-machine-profile) way to do it?...

Two accounts??

*edit* Aha! Answered my own question!: I made use of the separate preferences for home/work/school and set one to dissallow AP units, then set those machines as members of that venue/group with THOSE prefs!

Hi,

It's pretty easy to set up depending on how many pc's you have and how different a profile you want, but for just a few pc's and a couple of profiles, you could set the ones you want to crunch AP on the "Home" venue or location, and the ones you don't want to crunch AP to work.

You would access the "venues" or "location" on the bottom of the "Computer Summary" page for each pc, and set up the profile in your SETI@home preferences

If you need more than two profiles, use the school venue too.

You can have up to 4 location profiles for your computers. Leave your default settings to do all. You simply need to add, say, preferences for home and set that do do only SETI@Home enhanced. Then set the location for the faster computers bland (default) and set the slower computers' locations as home. I've done this with a old P3 that runs at my sister-in-law's place.

Of course if you use optimized apps on each computer you can load only the apps you want to run on those computers, and then just use the default profile set to run all. The only reason I set profiles is because I want AP WU's rather than Enhanced WU's, but the old P3 can't be optimized to do them.
