Yeah, I got that earlier today and just did NNT until further notice. The server is apparently limped back to life, but my understanding of Matt's post is that nothing's going to work until the raid5 array has finished syncing.

Bernie
almost as if they don't have a life outside of SETI.

That's a bit harsh, and patronising isn't it.

Anyway I can't get Boinc do download anything at the moment, I have a quad with GPU, I was unfortunate enough to pick up two AP's so that's it now my scheduler will play silly buggers until they are done. The question is; are these issues with scheduling ever going to be resolved?

Please be VERY careful when you quote out of context!!!!! I didn't say that, your quoting a quote and making me look bad, if you don't know how to quote, please don't.

So is this spring break week at Berkeley? Any chance this is being worked on today, or will we be looking at another long weekend outage?

It really doesn't matter if my PC's can't connect every damned day. I have a good cache to last me through this too.

Even if they all run dry, what does it matter? /me think people take this too seriously really.

(After re-reading the entire thread.)
So just reporting an outage and a question regarding it is taking it too seriously? Up until your post, that's all this thread was. Was your reaction really necessary or warranted?

Yes, with bigger WU-cache it's stress less life.. ;-D

A bigger cache leads to stress and less life? Hmmm, you might have a point there :-)

Regards,
John.

Noo.. you misunderstood me.. ;-D

Or..
..this happen if I translate german directly to english.. :-)

I meant:
..I have a less stressful life with bigger WU-cache.. :-D
..or less stress in my life with bigger WU-cache..
..or similar.. ;-D

I was wrong about my quad as it ran dry of both SETI and Milkyway. I attached it to ABC for the time being.

I have another day on my mac and no work on the old P4. But thats ok i need to blow the dust out of it anyway.

That one reminded me - I had not blown mine out for about 6 weeks. Promptly closed it down, had a look, didnt look that bad, but I gave it a blow with the 'ol air can and cleaned the front fan dust filter etc etc, turned it back on, and core temp is now 4 degrees down ....... and it really didnt look bad, must have been the front fan filter clogged up more than I thought.

Definitely a wake up call to get back to the monthly routine....

Message 877683 - Posted: 21 Mar 2009, 3:13:39 UTC

I KNEW something was about to happen !

Since last August, every time my RAC has reached 22,000 there has been a major fallover at the SAH servers. On Friday (Oz time) my RAC hit 21,900 (after climbing back up from the February hiccup). Something was BOUND to happen, especially after Matt provoking Murphy in his last two posts in Technical News. :-P

'Tis kismet Grasshopper.

Ever notice how a good deal of the ones that don't care about work being available have less than four digit RACs?

It's almost funny.

No, this isn't a flame. Just being Mr. Obvious today. :)

Did they give any clue when WUs might be going out again?

No.

Reading between the lines and the fact we aren't back up yet, I get the feeling that either they have a real hardware failure or the stuff is so touchy that they'll need to perform and exorcism and Jeff will need to be present for that.

I know they are working on it. Hopefully the RAID is re-syncing now. If it does overnight I'm sure someone can remotely throw the switch. Multi terabyte RAIDS can take several hours to sync up. Just hope they don't have to reload from the secondary.

In the mean time, join up on another project as a backup. Set your preferences for say SETI 1000 share and backup project 1 share. Your cores won't go cold and you will keep your RAC.

And for the people who like to complain about downtime, just look at how long it has been since malariacontrol has sent out a workunit.

4.5 here, Of course I'm down to 3.75 right now.

I'm not worried as the problem will get fixed, But the piper will have to be paid when the problem does get fixed.

Hey, you're back..again. :p

I was thinking about increasing my cache by a day or two (has been at 4 for as long as it could be set). I made it through the February incident just fine, so this one should be fine, too.

Though these new CPUs are burning through AP much faster than the old ones, so it's hard telling.

It looks like Thumper has recovered, now somebody needs to turn on the splitters so we can create some new work.
