You're welcome. :-) As to the other account, you can't merge it into this one or delete it. It'll stay in limbo. |

Well - thankyou all - The prefs prob seems resolved with that link, and am now crunching seti enhanced - but I think I have lost my old credit. Not a prob. I can't be bothered to get it :) TY once again |

Did you change the preferences with this account? If you did, then you must have a second account, as under the account you are posting with, you do not have any computers attached. See this FAQ on how to overcome this. |

I'm using Boinc version 5.8.16 - I am using the preferences from the advanced view on the left after selecting seti from the projects screen. It takes me to the seti account screen where I select the prefs and only select the get work from seti enhanced button - the get work from other projects is deselected. I still get AP v5 units. check mark SETI@home Enhanced You need to make sure you don't have a check mark besides Astropulse Astropulse v5 and If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? EDIT Click update preferences at bottom of page. Your preference page should then show Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yes Astropulse: no Astropulse v5: no If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no |

Ok thx for the reply - but what I mean is why can't 1 astropulse unit be calculated by 2cpu's? Because I have a duel core system it seems this is not possible? An astropule unit takes too long to run on only 1 cpu (approx 160hrs) and I usually get 4 weeks to do it but I don't necessarily have the comp on for 40+hrs/week. If it ran on both cpus I would easily be able to calculate them on time. Because the science app isn't multi-threaded. There has been some major performance degradation in attempting to code the app to be multi-threaded due to context switching, cache syncs between processors/cores (remember that if it were multi-threaded, a simple dual (not duel) processor machine with a single core per CPU would attempt to process the app on both CPUs, and trying to sync the L1 and L2 cache across the bus would be prohibatively slow as each transaction is limited to the speed of the FSB). As it turns out, the app spends more time sync'ing with all the cores/CPUs in a system than it actually does processing the data. This doesn't mean that it will never happen, it simply means that it is currently difficult to do until the programming tools become better. In the Seti preferences edit page I have the Astropulse and v5 turned off and the box unchecked in get work from other apps if no work - but I still get Astropulse work units - and I have pressed the update button. Help pls. Does the machine in question belong to whatever preference venue (Home, Work, School) you've changed? Are you using web based preferences or are you using local preferences? Because local prefs will always override the web based ones. |

You can select which sort of downloads you wish on this web site, in your account SETI Preferences. (NOOB issue). You can select how many CPUs to run, and CUDA capable GPUs if you have any. This can be done through the CPU usage settings in your account, or locally for each machine (advanced view, advanced menu - Preferences) The local settings override the web settings. 6.4 has some CPU scheduler and work fetch bugs having to do with the incorporation of CUDA capable devices. If you DO NOT have a CUDA capable video card, you might want to consider uninstalling 6.4.x and installing 6.2.9 in its place. 6.2.19 does have some extra bugs with graphics that are supposedly fixed in 6.4.7 (yet to be released).
