Message 891893 - Posted: 6 May 2009, 13:01:39 UTC - in response to Message 891663.

So this new build with new VLAR limit is similar to MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_NoPerfLog.rar?
..without affinity?
So well for > 1 GPU? ;-)

Just curious.. what mean NoPerfLog?

Thanks.
[/color]

version with adjusted VLAR range has VLAR kill feature enabled (of course ;) ) and affinity lock disabled. "NoPerfLog" is just the sign what was changed in that particular build (i.e. for internal use).

@ PaulDHarris

Hmm.. 'strange'..

If you do AP in ~ 100 hours.. then it's without opt. app, or?

If you followed the 'manual' of the app_info thread and used the last recommended CUDA app and .dll's of Raistmer..
Normally you must get CUDA WUs.

You had/have 'checked' GPU usage in your preferences?

@ Raistmer

The last time you published:
MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_AffinityLock_NoPerfLog.rar
MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_NoPerfLog.rar
MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_NoPerfLog_NoVLARKill.rar

So this new build with new VLAR limit is similar to MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_NoPerfLog.rar?
..without affinity?
So well for > 1 GPU? ;-)

Just curious.. what mean NoPerfLog?

Thanks.

I am using 6.6.20 and Raistmer's_opt_pack_V10a_x86_SSSE3_MB_CPU_GPU_team.rar
and all I can get is AP WU and no CUDA and my seti@home preferences are.
Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yes
Astropulse: yes
Astropulse v5: yes

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) yes

So why no CUDA? I want to do CUDA and in stock app it does CUDA so the card and driver is ok for CUDA but when I run the Raistmer's_opt_pack_V10a_x86_SSSE3_MB_CPU_GPU_team.rar I cannot do CUDA what is wrong?

Message 892194 - Posted: 7 May 2009, 4:56:46 UTC - in response to Message 892164.

Cause with V10 pack properly installed there will be no such term as "CUDA work" at all. All work will be fetched as CPU work and AK_v8 "teamed" mod will distribute part of this work to CUDA MB app that in turn use GPU for processing. BOINC doesn't know about this action so it can't report or fetch "CUDA" work.

BTW, this config is deprecated starting from BOINC 6.6.20. Better to use BOINC 6.6.20 scheduling abiliity cause this version can handle CUDA work adequately.

@ PaulDHarris

If I look to your PC overview, you installed BOINC new?
Current you use BOINC V5.8.16?
Then you wouldn't get CUDA.. ;-)

The best would be to use V6.4.7 or better V6.6.20.

I would recommend that for your knowledge best solution.
If you are well in app_info modding take the app_info you posted and the stand alone solution of Raistmer's CUDA app.
If you don't like to mod the app_info, then take the whole team mod of Raistmer.
For all BOINC V6.6.20 would be the best choice.

If you use V6.6.20 no cc_config.xml needed.

[EDIT: Maybe in the time you used the team mod, there were no MB WUs available? Or is there something specially, because if the CPU do AP with whole cache no CUDA WU request?]

@ Raistmer

If I understood PaulDHarris well, he used BOINC V6.6.20 and your team mod.
And got no CUDA. Only AP.
But normally, if he take your whole team mod, he must get CUDA, or? [if MB WUs available]

If he crunch all stock he get only CUDA and AP. No CPU MB.

What could be wrong?
Driver? He have 18206.

Or the 9500 GT is not so well for CUDA?

If I look to his upper posted selfmade app_info.xml from the app_info thread and for your stand alone CUDA app, it's looking well. Or?

@Sutaru Tsureku

Thanks for the help I’m am running 6.6.20 now and Raistmer's_opt_pack_V10a_x86_SSSE3_MB_CPU_GPU_team whole package

AK_v8b_win_SSSE3x_GPU_CPU_team_V10.exe
ap_5.00r103_SSE3.exe
ap_5.03r112_SSE3.exe
app_info.xml
cudart.dll
cufft.dll
libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll
MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V10.exe
number_of_GPUs (which is set to 1)

my seti@home preferences are.

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yes
Astropulse: yes
Astropulse v5: yes
My setiathome preferences are

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) yes

My card has done CUDA MB WU before when I was using older versions of Boinc (I don't remember which one but it might have been 5.10.45) and Raistmers AK V8 + CUDA MB team work mod when a computer crash from a neighbor use of my computer caused me to re-install my OS and BOINC and I lost my BOINC in the crash and now I can not get any GPU work(CUDA on MY GPU)

5/6/2009 8:25:59 PM CUDA device: GeForce 9500 GT (driver version 18206, CUDA version 1.1, 1024MB, est. 16GFLOPS)

So I wish I knew what was wrong and I would like to get it going again I am doing plenty of AP WU and my rac was at over 9000 at one time just doing AP WU so I would also like to do gpu MB WU also known as CUDA so I could do more SETI and a better rac. My 9500gt will do them in about 1 hour to about 15 minutes but 1 hour is usual.

Thanks again Sutaru Tsureku for trying to help me. My CUDA card and Raistmer's_opt_pack_V10a_x86_SSSE3_MB_CPU_GPU_team whole package to doing CUDA. It does AP in about 16 hours and it works AP WU excellent except no CUDA.

@ PaulDHarris

..you are welcome. :-)

O.K. ..

1st, never again your neighbor on your PC! ;-)

..

So finally, I would stay some time with Raistmer's whole package.
And maybe in some time [maybe one/two days?] you will get some CUDA WUs.

But maybe change the CUDA.exe with the newest. And also the .dll's..
To find here:
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/v10-of-modified-seti-mb-cuda-opt-ap-package-for-full-multi-gpucpu-use.msg16812.html#msg16812

.dll's:
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/v10-of-modified-seti-mb-cuda-opt-ap-package-for-full-multi-gpucpu-use.msg16715.html#msg16715
But first Raistmer need to recommend this, if this is possible.

I edited my upper post.
Maybe your whole BOINC cache was full of APs.
And maybe too full, because of new installation and maybe 'overasking' of new WUs. And you got only APs. And because of this no CUDA?

Message 892231 - Posted: 7 May 2009, 7:35:11 UTC - in response to Message 892220.

For what it might be worth I am running an i7 920 + 1 Cuda.
And with the help of Raistmer and others have been happily
crunching 8 AP's and 1 Cuda only for the last few weeks.
I have my preferances slightly different.

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yes
Astropulse: yes
Astropulse v5: yes

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) no

This gives me AP's and Cuda.
I also have driver version 18250 for video.
Hope some of this might help.

Your welcome Paul.
I ran my cache out of cuda earlier today, but still had about 30 AP's
to crunch.
I set my S@H preferences as described but unticked the 2 AP boxes.
I got around 200 6.08 cuda to crunch.
I know that this is a bit of micro management but it works for me.

How many AP's do you have left to burn?

That is what is showing in your list of computers.
1 has the new video driver, 1 has the old driver.
1 is showing 14 Astropulse's do do the other has 60 wu's in
progress AP's and others.

@FiveHamlet
I merged the 2 computers and I toasted all those WUs installing BOINC and reinstalling BOINC trying to get CUDA WUs and the only way I can get CUDA is if I run the standard apps but if I run the standard apps the AP WWU take 100 hrs so I don't run the standard apps. I run the opp apps and when I try and switch between the different opp apps and the different standard apps I lose my WUs. I have 8 AP WUs running now and 5 AP WUs in queue.

My last idea.. my knowledge is empty now.. ;-)

Look the graph, if he's at 'normal' [green 6 - 7 k] :
http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;ranges=d%3Aw;view=UcastPackets

Look if SETI@home [Enhanced] WUs are ready for to send out:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

Make your SETI@home preferences to:
Run only the selected applications
SETI@home Enhanced: yes
Astropulse: no
Astropulse v5: no

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) no

Cancel [not pause] all tasks on your PC.
[Maximum daily WU quota per CPU 100/day will go down because of this.
So you could reach the limit.
But for every well returned task [uploaded/reported result] the quota go again up]

[Maybe the tasks are nearly finish, wait to the end and upload/report]

Update your BOINC Manager ~ 20 times.

If you don't get CUDA WUs.. I guess you made something wrong with installation.

Maybe repeat the test with one other:
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) yes

Update your BOINC Manager ~ 20 times.

If you will get CPU and/or GPU WUs.

[make the whole tests with small cache, maybe 0.1 - 0.25 days]

If you don't get CUDA WUs, I would detach BOINC, unistall/install BOINC and attach again to the project, new installation of the team mod of Raistmer in the SETI@home folder.
BOINC V6.x have different folder as BOINC V5.x for to install the team mod.

Paul, your tasks page seems to think you have a bunch of MBs given to you on the 6th. If these aren't showing in your Boinc Manager then they are ghost WUs. They could be keeping you from getting new work since the server thinks you have plenty.

I hate recommending aborting WUs but in this case it might be a good idea to set no new task, finish the ones you are working on now, abort what's left and do a detach to clear all the MB ghosts. You may also want to switch from the team opt app to Raistmer's stand-alone app and also get rid of the cc_config entry for ncpus. This only confuses 6.6.20.

I second that.
The i7 will do 8 AP's in about 30 hrs or so running the standard app
even if it takes longer you could run the AP's out, then detatch.
Loosing the other apps is not such a problem as they will be crunched
easier.

{edit} I just ran out of cuda to do.I turned off nnt and straight away I
got about 350 cuda to do plus some 6.03's that are not ticked so Boinc
doesn't send everything correctly lol

@Sutaru Tsureku
I looked at the first graph and the second graph. I don’t understand the first graph and the second graph says all is ok at seti.

I have set my seti@home preferences to

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yesAstropulse: noAstropulse v5: no
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) no

I will let my WU that are running complete and set BOINC to no new task and cancel the ones in my queue.
Then I will update my BOINC manager about 20 times
Then I will see if I get any CUDA WUs. If I did not get any CUDA WUs the set seti@home preferences to Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) yes
Then I will update BOINC manager about 20 times. I should get both CPU and GPU WUs.
I have set my computing preferences to
Maintain enough work for an additional Enforced by version 5.10+ 0.1 days
If I don't get any CUDA WUs I will reinstall Raistmer's_opt_pack_V10a_x86_SSSE3_MB_CPU_GPU_team.rar

Thanks for the help Sutaru Tsureku

So other people had some suggestions I will try them if this doesn't work

@ Raistmer

We from team seti.international like to support SETI@home. ;-D

@ PaulDHarris

If you use Raistmer's CUDA app, then errors are wanted for VLAR-WUs.

BTW.
With this app_info.xml thread.. you can use Raistmer's CUDA app also.
Only the .._CUDA_...exe and the three .dll's.

Have a look here:

@Sutaru Tsureku
Thanks I made changes to my app_info.xml file see below and added the 3 dll files and MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V10.exe file and removed the setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe file.

Your App_info.xml is pointing at two different .exe files and will not crunch Cuda w/u's properly.
Cuda Workunits will be handed to the CPU's if not corrected.

The red indicated line must be edited to <name>MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V10.exe</name> in order to use the V-10 cuda mod.

After this is changed stop boinc completely and restart. Should crunch in Cuda there after, so long as the workunits are ver. 6.08.

Hang in there Paul! :)

Edit: And as long as the <file_name> line is correct, mine points at a different exe file than you have listed. This maybe an issue as well.
If all else fails I'll piece a App_info.xml together for you.
