The pending credits are a function of how fast your wingman returns their copy of the WU, its not connected to the weekend hassle - although there is some effect as things string out, results are returned, and normal crunching resumes. The pending credits can vary from zero up to 50,000 depending on how much hardware individuals have churning out the WUs, and how fast your wingman return's a matching result.

Pending credits are generally somewhere between 2 and 4 times what one's RAC is, there is no limit on pendings... My current pendings are more than the 50,000 referenced by Zydor, for example. And there are some out there whose pendings top 100K... Give it a little time and it will probably settle down some.

No.

Pending Credits are held when you return your copy of the Work Unit. Its return is noted in the Pending list. Each work unit has a "wingman" - another person who crunches the same work unit. When they return their copy of the Work Unit, both your copy and their copy are compared against each other as part of the Validation that crunching has occurred correctly and produced a valid result.

Each Work Unit has a time limit by when each person has to return the Work Unit. Everyone has a different PC setup / circumstances etc etc etc, therefore Work Units can get delayed. In your list you have some going back to 11 Feb - WU 412961548 for example. Your Wingman has until early March to return their copy, when they do, you get the credit for the work.

When each copy is returned and validated against each other, your credit moves from pending to awarded.

What does RAC mean? And doesn't it rise if one get credit for the pending results?

What does RAC mean?

One place to see explanation is BOINC Wiki - RAC

And doesn't it rise if one get credit for the pending results?

Not necessarily, if you were granted 200 credits eight days ago and only granted 100 credits today your RAC would go down.

Pendings are a normal part of Seti, if you're not OK with them, you should maybe look at another project. Rosetta WUs are never pending (or at least I've never seen one pending), and you get daily credit for Climate Prediction when you submit trickles even though the WU is pending until you finish it. FYI, the longest pending I remember on Seti was about 6.5 months when it finally got granted. Oh, and if you think Seti is bad, check out Orbit. I have three pendings there, for which I'd be lucky to get credit for 2 of them, and the oldest has been pending since July 22, 2008.

-Dave

[Edit] Oh, and for perspective, my current oldest on Seti is Dec 20, and I'm running at just over 52,000 pendings...

They won't go to waste. If your "wingman" doesn't submit the completed work by the deadline the work unit will be reissued to someone else. You'll get credit when a second computer returns the same results you did. That may take a while, or not depending on your luck, but the data is good and you will eventually get credit.

My pending is around 22,000 and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

What you have to consider, for projects that use the BOINC method to validate the tasks, is, that if you have no pending tasks, then the wingmen you are paired with for the tasks have pendings and are waiting for you.

Just had a look at all my current Work Units.
I think the main reason for the big increase in pending credit is the combination of a lot of longer running Work Units and more & more people running larger & larger caches.
Looking at a my pendings, there are lots of systems there that take 10 or more days to return a result. Before i went on holidays (almost 6 weeks ago) most of the longer pendings were due to un-returned work, now it's mostly just longer-to-return work.

But my RAC is climbing as well so I am not so bothered.
Since I started running CUDA about a week ago I've gone from 6k pending to the now 19k. I am just completing WUs too fast for most of my wingmen.

I think many folks are running larger cashes just now due to the recent spate of access issues the project has been having. I'm sure if things stablise with the project folks may well wind down their cache's somewhat. I am currently running 7 days rather than my usual 2, but I'll back it of as I see seti becoming more reliable.

My current pending is around 6k, but over 2k of that is tied to just 2 AP results.

My pending credit has never been so high. It used to sit about 3,500 until I started ap wu's. I now have 12 ap in pending, and my pending credit is nearly 19,000 now. At least now I understand why it's so high.

regards, Gizbar.

I haven't touched my cache settings since.. 5.10.x when you could adjust it. Set it to 4 days, 1 day on all systems. Of course it ignores the 1-day connect interval and reports/asks for new work several times per day, but that doesn't really bother me. Keeping more than a day's worth of work in the cache is what matters.

A couple weeks ago when the servers had some issues, quite a few people were running low or ran out of work. with my modest 4-day cache, I still had about a day and a half of work left on each of my 5 hosts.

The key is to have a cache larger than 1-day, but not too big. For some people, it takes a lot of trial and error, but for me, I guessed at 4 and it has been perfect ever since.
