November 26, 2004 This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows a streamlined landform in the Mangala Valles region of Mars. An ancient catastrophic flood, probably consisting of water and debris, ran northward in this portion of the Mangala Valles system. The high mesa at the south end of the streamlined form may have been above the floodwaters. Its presence as an obstacle to the flow caused erosion and deposition of sediment to create the teardrop-shaped, tapered form in its lee. The image is illuminated by sunlight from the upper left. November 25, 2004 This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows buttes composed of light-toned, sedimentary rock exposed by erosion within a crater occurring immediately west of Schiaparelli Basin. Surrounding these buttes is a field of dark sand dunes and lighter-toned, very large windblown ripples. The sedimentary rocks might indicate that the crater interior was once the site of a lake. Sunlight illuminates the scene from the lower left. Sedimentary Rocks and Dunes - (PIC) me@rescam.org |

November 24, 2004 This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows Crater Hale in the Argyre basin of the southern hemisphere of Mars. Crater Hale, with its terraced walls, central peak and a part of the inner ring is visible in the upper (eastern) part of the image. Crater Hale in Argyre basin - (PIC) me@rescam.org |

November 24, 2004 This Mars Odyssey Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) image shows the small unnamed channel in this nighttime infrared image is located near Tyrrhena Patera. This channel is located to the northwest of the volcanic complex and likely formed by fluvial action. In nighttime images North is to the bottom of the image. November 23, 2004 The navigation camera on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity took images during the rover's 285th martian day that are combined into this 360-degree panorama. Opportunity had reached the base of "Burns Cliff," a portion of the inner wall of "Endurance Crater." This view shows rock layers in the wall, with a portion of Opportunity's solar array visible at the bottom right. Opportunity at the Wall - (PIC) me@rescam.org |

November 23, 2004 This 360-degree panorama combines several frames taken by the navigation camera on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit during the rover's 313th martian day. The site, labeled Spirit site 93, is in the "Columbia Hills" inside Gusev Crater. The rover tracks point westward. Track of Right-Wheel Drag - (PIC) me@rescam.org |

November 21, 2004 This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows exposures of north polar layered material--perhaps composed of a mixture of dust and ice--in the form of a hill and an adjacent depression. The depression is in the lower half of the image and forms an oval shape at its lowest elevations. The hill is immediately above the depression and forms a similar pattern of arcuate bands. Sunlight illuminates the scene from the lower left. Hill and Depression - (PIC) |

November 11, 2004 These images, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, are Europe’s highest-resolution pictures so far of the Martian moon Phobos. These HRSC images show new detail that will keep planetary scientists busy for years, working to unravel the mysteries of this moon. The images show the Mars-facing side of the moon.
