No way will my computer heat any thing I mean come be serious. My computer puts out about as much heat as a light bulb. Lower (computer case) temperature but spread over much larger area. Presently (in Vancouver) it is 1C outside and the heat in turned off. I sit on my bed, typing this, and the heat coming off of my quad is enough that I have to have a window open a little or it would be uncomfortably warm. O yes, the rize in electricity prizes. I never wrote how much it was: Just a suggestion but why not set BOINC up to only compute at night so you get the night-time rate? No only will you be using half the amount of electicity, but you also get it at the lower rate. As some have suggested you get a bit of heat to help warm the house at night too. BOINC blog |

LOL...1°C. OMG it hit 46.4°C in Melbourne today. It's hottest day EVER! Glad the new A/C has kept the house at a nice 25°C (with my 2 comps running). |

LOL...1°C. OMG it hit 46.4°C in Melbourne today. It's hottest day EVER! Only about 31°C in Sydney today (on the coast), warmer inland. Had the a/c on and off in the afternoon, but a cool breeze came through this evening so don't need a/c at the moment. BOINC blog |

LOL...1°C. OMG it hit 46.4°C in Melbourne today. It's hottest day EVER! Currently -24c here in Nova Scotia. If we are lucky we may get up to +27c in the middle of August and we complain at that temperature because it brings the humidity with it making it feel even worse. If for some unexplained reason we ever got 46.4c here half of the population would evaporate before the end of the day! As far as the use of electricity versus the costs incurred dilemma my power is included in my rent so its not a concern here. We have separate power meters and in looking at the before and after usages I figure it costs around $50 a month for my 24/7 mini farm to run. I do find that my living room is kept warmer by these rigs and until I am forced to pay for my power seperately I will keep these babies humming day and night. I do set my thermostats down during the day when no one is here so that more than balances out the additional consumption the rigs create. http://www.novascotia.com |

Everyone that is using electricity for heating should leave the PC running anyway in the cold season - the heat in the house will cost you the same if it is produced by your PC or by your electric furnace. I can thoroughly recommend my old 3.2 GHz P4 Prescotts....the temperature in the room where they were, has dropped markedly, since they were replaced by Core 2 Duo powered PCs! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |
