. . . 53°F and supposed to climb to 72°F

< had a thunderstorm rail through the Carolina's last night @ approx. 74 MPH zip-zip ;)

[only rained for 10 minutes here in Cherokee Woods - no lightning etc

- though other areas were blown out - big trees downed - buildings destroyed - all elsewhere in the region]

The heavy rain has passed to the north and east of us, so now we are only soggy, not flooded. Some wind damage overnight around here, combination of soaked ground and high winds knocked lots of trees over. Maybe not the apocalypse, but just more global warming.

It's been unusually warm here in northern New England the past few days. It was 54°F yesterday and its 45°F today with rain this morning. The amount of snow on the ground is dropping fast from 2 feet last week to about 10 inches today. I guess this is our annual "January thaw" even though we are well into February.

We now return to our normally scheduled winter, already in progress.

Snowing like crazy here in SW Ontario, as of a few minutes ago. The January Thaw is over.

Things have settled down in Southern England now. We've done snow, floods, wind etc recently.

Northern England is currently experiencing another heavy snowfall.

just more global warming.

"Global Warming" is such a misnomer. It sounds all harmless and benign. Like something on the menu at a health spa.
"Yes, I'll have a massage, body wrap and a global warming."
I believe we should call it by a more definitive name...

GLOBAL CLIMATIC DISRUPTION. It's descriptive and to the point.

Awoke to a nice thin layer of perfect white snow over everything. One good thing about this is it is covering all the dirt, garbage, and dog poop that the recent thaw revealed. Heavy local flooding all around after the thaw and rain, but not the worst we've seen.

Observed at: London Int'l Airport
Date: 7:33 AM EST Friday 13 February 2009
Condition: Light Snow

Dewpoint: -2.2°C
Humidity: 92 %
Wind: NW 9 km/h

From the local news, heavily edited:

Areas of London, mainly Thames River parkland, were submerged, and streets deluged in Wallaceburg and flooding expected in coming days upstream of Chatham.

In Perth County, flooding washed out so many roads, crews were running out of barricades to seal off the roads.

In Bayfield, a marina filled with boats was destroyed when an ice jam broke up on the Bayfield River, smashing into riverside retaining walls.

In Buffalo NY, There was a plane crash, No survivors from the plane(49) and one dead on the ground, 2 survivors from the house the plane crashed into, It's possible there was ice on the wings, The Government is going to get the "black" boxes(actually I think their Orange in color) to see what was going on. A witness on the ground said He'd heard the aircraft and It's engines sounded louder than usual(straining) and then nothing.

Last week in Australia:

State of Queensland - 62% suffering floods. This is an area of land equivalent to 4 times the size of the British Isles.
State of New South Wales - Sweltering in mid 40's C (110-115 F). Several bushfires.
State of Victoria - Burning in temps around 46 C (115 F) Bushfires destroying whole townships, and leaving a death toll in the hundreds.

This week in Australia:
State of Queensland - Floods subsiding in some parts, but heavy rain caused by a tropical depression dumping more moisture than the land can hold.
State of New South Wales - temps down to 13 C (56 F) Rain hasn't stopped in three days, causing flooding near the border with Queensland, and flood watches on several rivers throughout the state. Local rainfall today is said to be only 19 millimetres (3/4 inch). I reckon the person taking the readings has moved the rain gauge indoors, to save herself gettin' wet!
State of Victoria - A little cooler, but still stinking hot. At least 15 fires still out of control.

Just misread it. That's centimetres instead of millimetres. :-)
