Currently 1C, light NW breeze.

Snow cover persisting, plenty of ice around, but hopefully tomorrow's warmth will finish it off!

Wintery showers at present, although this should turn to rain tomorrow. However come Monday, more heavy snow predicted. Looks like were getting more snow in the pst week than the past 10 years combined.

We've already exceed snow levels for the past 20 years here.

I think (hope!) we will miss the snow on Monday and get rain instead. Flooding may be a new problem here as there are lakes forming in the fields from the snow melt!

Interesting local bit of language usage going on here. The papers and TV are calling our present weather "the latest January thaw in several years". To everybody else it seems to make perfect sense, but I find it a bit amusing.

From my childhood in the South-East of England, I remember the thaw didn't come until at least February.

In Germany, where I served with the British Army, the thaw didn't occur 'til March, most years.

From that. "Latest January Thaw" means the tabloids are either talking nonsense, as usual, or they have developed a sense of humour!

Andy, after just seeing the latest forcast, it appears that you are going to get a good coating of more white stuff. It looks like another 15cm at least. This is going to contnue near enough for the rest of February.

Really nice today.

4C, lots of sun and just enough wind for a nice afternoon of:

Nice day here. However, my back yard is a montage`of slick ice, crunchy snow, mud an inch deep, swamp areas and ponding water. O JOY!

We could do with some of the cold weather from the Northern hemisphere.

Since yesterday, 640 homes lost in the state of Victoria, and 50 confirmed dead. More than one township has been burned to the ground.

No, not here - I can only hope...

Last night we were supposed to get a "severe frost" - yet we just touched freezing, so not sure what went wrong there...

I think snow might fall here tonight & tomorrow, but can't see it being cold enough to sit around.

Here in southern Ontario we usually get one brief thaw in January, hence the name "January Thaw". Then it's back to ice and snow for another two months at least. This year the winter was much colder than usual, almost like "the good old days". So the first thaw of the new year didn't happen until 7 February, but people still want to call it the "January Thaw"

Yes I know Bill its just my twisted "sense of humour" kicking in the last time the UK had snow that bad would be the winter of 1946/47 although there have been a few that were close '76&'84 if I recall were pretty bad as well diesel "froze" in truck tanks there is now a blend for winter enough history
by the way sort of glad the bikes in dry dock at the moment too cold to ride it anyway.
Oh the weather you say it's snowing not heavy yet more of a nuisance at the moment the forecast is for it to get heavier later and Andy Worth in Weston-super Mare has heavy rain to look forward to as well as lots of snow.
Old enough to know better(but)still young enough not to care
