Thanks for the kind words. This is my favorite from this morning. Well worth the pain in the cold to get this one. You should post it on the photo thread! |

There is presently a truck stuck at the traffic lights in the middle of town, trying to go uphill. Feel sorry for the driver though. ![]() |

Sunday, for 1 day, then back to cold & snow! It has been our coldest Winter in these parts for 30 years and snowiest in over 20 years. Just down the road 200 people had to get rescued last night as the road they were travelling on suddenly became impassable. ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7873628.stm ) There have been a few reports of "Thunder Snow" this morning too - an unusual condition where you get snow falling during a thunder storm - witnessed this myself on Monday AM and it's the eeriest thing as the snow damps down the sound of the thunder and makes it seem surreal. Oh yeah, it is snowing again this morning (weather station says rain sometimes because it doesn't know better). And I have a new problem - my conservatory roof is starting to give under the weight of snow and is leaking like a sieve this morning! |

Andy, its not just that part of Devon either. Further down into Cornwall, things are becoming just as dangerous. To make it worse, both Devon & cornwall county councils are almost out of salt/grit. Tonight should be very interesting when it all freezes again. Next week doesn't kook good for us down here either. ![]() |

Andy, its not just that part of Devon either. Further down into Cornwall, things are becoming just as dangerous. To make it worse, both Devon & cornwall county councils are almost out of salt/grit. Tonight should be very interesting when it all freezes again. It's grim isn't it? None of our roads have been treated today as there is no salt / grit left. There was over a foot of snow laying on top of a layer of black ice earlier, so as you can imagine the roads are a no-go. Both severn crossings are shut too due to the Snow. Luckily it has started a rapid thaw here as a warm breeze has kicked in - but hope it doesn't freeze back over tonight. |

All this talk about snow. That's why I moved away from CT and out here; similar climate, just not as much of the "white stuff". |

Andy-What's your total snowfall so far? This week, several feet in total. Which is about 2 and a half feet more than in the last 20 years! Check out my Website for details of the chaos that ensued - and plenty of snowy pics. The phone service is back on, but the power has been off more than on today. We had a good thaw this afternoon, but now the darkness has arrived it has frozen over. Hopefully the thaw will continue tomorrow. |

For our friends in the UK with all the snow - I feel your pain. Now, on the theory that misery likes company, here are a couple of shots recently received from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (yes, that is the real name). See, it could be worse... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Now, on the theory that misery likes company, here are a couple of shots recently received from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (yes, that is the real name). See, it could be worse... Well, no. If it was like that all the time we'd be prepared for it. But it's the first proper snow fall in over 20 years here, so we have no snow ploughs, snow chains, stumpy tires on cars etc. I'd love to have proper Winters like that if I was geared up for it. |

I'd love to have proper Winters like that if I was geared up for it. I've had winters like that for 57 years, and I'm fully geared up with assorted snow shovels, snowblower, chains, sanders, salters, etc. I still hate it. Every shovel full. ![]() ![]() |

Took a look at the top pic and the first thing that popped into my head was all right just wait till I get that snowblower driver I'll give him "orders" as Andy says IF we got winters like you do we would be prepeared for it,but even in the North of Scotland winters like this are fairly rare much less the South west of England they get rain more often that not. Took a look at the top pic and the first thing that popped into my head was all right just wait till I get that snowblower driver I'll give him "orders" If you're referring to the poor slob shovelling his roof, I don't think you can blame the snow-blower driver. Those are just drifts. Had to do this myself as a teen, on houses in Manitoba and in Edmonton. Fortunately, by the time you need to shovel the roof, there usually are drifts big enough that you can just walk up. Another thing commonly done when the drifts get this big is to take a picture of a snow mobile parked on your roof. Many people seem to think this is funny. ![]() ![]() |

Although the snow and slush was largely gone from the roads it has now started to freeze over. Tomorrow morning will be very interesting. especially if we have the occassional snow showers predicted for the early hours of the morning. ![]() |
