I just set up a rig for a teammate with a Q8200 and CUDA-GPU (Quadro FX570). BOINC 6.4.5 - CUDA 2.0 driver... all good. BOINC tells me that the is a coprocessor, but does not use it. Just pulled seti 6.03 and that's it. mic. |

The Quadro Fx - card is the only one. It's a new rig / fresh install - should not be any need to detach / reattach... I agree, but there shouldn't have been any reason for me to have to detach after doing a reset either, but that's what I had to do in pretty much the same situation their pc is in now, is all I was saying. It certainly doesn't answer why they didn't get the 6.05 files in the first place, other than the CUDA exe and dll's probably didn't download for whatever reason. |

it should have downloaded the CUDA exe and dll's if it was a fresh install. I downloaded cuda exe manually (dlls have already been in boinc folder) and created app_info.xml file with direct links to these 3 files. Then i started BOINC. It found app_info, read it without any error and tried to start cuda exe. But all tasks wrote "computation error". P.S. When i deleted all files from project folder excepting my app_info.xml, BOINC tried to download exe but didn't find it on server. |

Does your app_info file have a line as............. <version_num>603</version_num> If it does it should be ............... <version_num>605</version_num> to get CUDA MB which is version 6.05 Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

it should have downloaded the CUDA exe and dll's if it was a fresh install. In this message in technical news it appears that some users won't be able to download the new application, for the time being at least, because their isp won't let them. Maybe this is your problem? I guess that it means that you may be able to download the application at a later stage, when it is provided 'directly' and not through a link pointing to an external server. Unfortunately, I have no idea how you might find out whether this really is your problem. Regards, John. |

One for CUDA apps hasn't been created yet. But if Boinc couldn't find the exe file on the server, you may have the wrong name for it in the app info file. |

I connected to GPUGrid and got such error: 19.12.2008 15:45:46|GPUGRID|Message from server: No work sent I saw posts about such errors on this mesage board. I think if there is no 6.03 app on server i will get this error for seti too. |

Well I change my app info file to 605 and it is working even though I do not have a CUDA on my machine. |

If you have an app_info.xml file, it won't pull the CUDA client. Also, I'm not sure that the "custom" BOINC client 6.5.x supports, or knows about CUDA. (At least one poster here showed 6.5.x in their logs) BOINC client 6.3.x to 6.4.5 knows about CUDA, and will use the CUDA DLL to detect if there is a supported GPU present. SO the first thing to try on a new setup is to install BOINC 6.4.5 client, then attach to SETI. That should pull the standard SET CUDA client. Now, if you want to try to switch to BOINC 6.5, OK. If it works, great, but no guarantees. That would be my approach. Also note: Not all 8600/8800 video cards are supported by the SETI CUDA client. Got to the nVidia website and see if your card and GPU support at least CUDA v1.1 (NOT 1.0). And the latest nVidia drivers with CUDA 2.0 support are required as well. Mark |

I finally started CUDA app on my host. I used such app_info.xml: <app_info> cudart.dll and cufft.dll are in project folder. System monitor is now showing *__cuda.exe process. But now i have another problem. CUDA uses only one CPU core. If another task tries to start it works only 8 s (i think, in this time cpu is preparing data for gpu) and then gets "computation error". It seems like GPU refusing second task. I understand that when ap task will be downloaded it will use second core normally. But while it isn't happen all such tasks are corrupted. |

If another task tries to start it works only 8 s (i think, in this time cpu is preparing data for gpu) and then gets "computation error". It seems like GPU refusing second task. Looking at the task details, you're running out of (video) memory. Seti CUDA needs about 200MB of VRAM, which is why the minimum requirement is 256MB on the card. How much memory do you have on the card? How much of it is used by other applications? |
