Dunno, I haven't seen any SETI WU since 08 Sep 2. As nearest as I can tell BOINC manager v6.2.18 has been workin' fine (80% of my projects are just pluggin' along). I'll be updating to the newest version as soonest I gets around to making a solid image backup. I'm sorely remiss in that task; me-thinks I could schedule that tomorrow evening whilest I'm away at the "festivities". Merry Christmas everybody! |

Any latest news on this? There are only sporadic downloads. Thanks. Mat made a post about it in the Technical News. Short answer, multiple bottlenecks resulting in a shortage of work. Grant Darwin NT |

Yes, there's still a problem with one of the download servers and work isn't getting made as quick as other times. Unless someone offers up his weekend to come take a look, don't expect any change in this until Monday morning Berkeley time (-8 hours UTC) in the least. Any latest news on this? I also am not getting any new work. I normally have two items running, but both were uploaded and no new work was downloaded. |

My guess is that there is something in 6.4.5 that blocks requests for additional work. That's why i downgraded from v6.4.5 to v6.2.19. Started downloading work straight away (that was yesterday). Most of my present requests for work get none- looks like one of the download servers is down; network traffic is about half of what it should be & inbound traffic is way up due to all the un-fullfilled requests. Thanks Jord. I usually keep my "buffer" high enough to cover a long weekend, etc., when it may take a while to resolve an issue or problem that crops up early. I also try not to play too much with the settings but did so today in order to try to figure out why my system did not appear to be operating normally. |

My guess is that there is something in 6.4.5 that blocks requests for additional work. Correct, there's a bug in the client that will prevent it from asking enough work. The developers knew about it but released the client anyway. It won't come that far that you'll actually totally run out of work, although it is possible that on multi-processor systems one or more CPUs go idle. Do know that at the moment of writing, Seti is also almost out of work. If no one gets in before Monday to kick the server, even going back to a previous version of BOINC won't help. Out of work is out of work. |

When I compared preferences via the web pages as opposed to using BOINC Manager I noticed that the Computing Preferences had a lower “Maintain enough work for an additional†than I had set in BOINC Manager. After resetting these to match on Friday I also noticed that no new work is being requested. The local preferences that are set within the Boinc manager override the web based settings and are independent of these settings when changed. Boinc does not currently have the ability to send them to the website. To use the website preferences changes again you would need to clear the local settings. The 'Clear" button is at top right of Boinc local preferences. You would need to post the relevant log messages starting with the messages when Boinc starts up to help figure out why you are not getting new work. |

When I compared preferences via the web pages as opposed to using BOINC Manager I noticed that the Computing Preferences had a lower “Maintain enough work for an additional†than I had set in BOINC Manager. After resetting these to match on Friday I also noticed that no new work is being requested. While listening to a basketball game I changed preferences in BOINC Manager in one day increments and no new work was being requested at each step. Rechecking Computing Preferences I noticed that the mismatch recurred between prefernces set in BOINC Manager and Computing Preferences via the web interface even after waiting 15-30 minutes. I doubled “Maintain enough work for an additional†and even after manually updating several times no new work is being requested. My guess is that there is something in 6.4.5 that blocks requests for additional work. Hopefully I can make it through the weekend but when I run out of work I will revert to an earlier version. I have no information concerning the mismatch between locally set BOINC preferences and those available through the web interface. I rule out the time it takes to cascade through servers because of the original mismatch which was based upon preferences that I had set at least a month or two ago. |

12/18/2008 14:29:43|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks You are requesting zero seconds of work, probably because you still have enough work in your queue or because you also run other projects and their Long Term Debt is higher than the one for Seti, so they'll take precedence. There's no need to manually request work, BOINC will do that all by itself... if you just let it. |
