I never really knew a lot about chronic pain, that is until recently.I have a condition called neuropathy,I have spent a great deal of time reading all about it. There are many other conditions causeing chronic pain. Some of these conditions do not respond to pain pills. Unfortunately many people are having a hard time getting help from the medical community to deal with chronic pain. I have always gotten a lot of pleasure from music.Music makes me forget about the pain, and also eating and sex make me forget about the pain too. I am quite sure most chronic pain victims have searched the vitamin and herb store for a cure, and after spending their hard earned money on a promise of hope end up disapointed. How do you deal with pain? Do you know someone who lives with chronic pain? Does your doctor refuse to prescribe pain medication ? Tell us your story.Dont be a victim.Fight back. |

Being in a wheelchair, I've got some chronic back pain. Seeing a chiropractor 2x a month has helped dramatically so I've been able to avoid pain meds for the most part. Eventually, though, I'll need a Disk Replacement |

I am suffering from osteoarthritis in the neck. I have tried all sort of treatments, massages, needle punctures, etc. Only mud baths give my some relief. Tullio PS My Merriam Webster Dictionary says acupuncture is an accepted word. |

I had some very intense pain when I was shot in the leg from a ricochet it didn't hurt at first and didn't bleed much but it sure did hurt later for weeks because when I got hit I also feel and broke my back and it hurt for months. I still have a big hole in my leg and my back still hurts a little. Also I fell 11 feet and it hurt so much I was on morphine for a week and I was blind for 4 days due to the fall. |

Regarding Dragonfly's concerns over Neuropathy...true name being Peripheral Neuropathy--here's some good information for those interested. My father experienced some of this during his Chemo treatments--specifically in the fingertips. 3 years removed and he hasn't regained it all but most of the sensation has returned. It can be excruciatingly painful. |

I have a bit of occasional pain in my right jaw and cheekbone area due to an injury a few years ago. I go to an acupuncturist once a week and it helps quiet a bit. RE. Dragonfly’s Chilli receipt: Sounds tasty. Gonna have to try it, maybe this weekend. Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein |

I hope you enjoy the Chili. You know you can add more water if you need too,To tell you the truth I seldom use a measureing cup. I had a good night last night.Im trying vitamin D supplements and a Anti-Deppresant.Some Anti-Deppresants have been found to help in the pain department. Rocky Road Ice cream helps a lot too. |

Just an idea: How about exercise? It seems like that would go a long way into making someone face his/her pain much better. If a person is paralyzed or lacks limbs, he/she might try to belly dance, etc. How about rolling around? |

I have phantom pain often. I got one of those little mini-trampolines and bouncing on that 20 minutes a day is a tremendous amount of exercise for me. I also go to a gymn with specially modified equipment for people in wheelchairs to do Nautilus for my upper body. Benched 115 pounds Saturday...highest point in years. There are always ways to work out and exercise...just have think unique |

I hope you enjoy the Chili. You know you can add more water if you need too,To tell you the truth I seldom use a measureing cup. They didn’t have the McCormic chilli seasoning so I went with the local bulk stuff. (Super hot version.) Tasty but, well, make sure you have milk on hand to ease the pain in the stomach after eating! :o) I’ll give your Oatmeal Cookies recipe a try next week. Also: Vitamin D is very good for lots of things: it is excellent as a cancer preventative. I have been taking 2000 IU daily for years as the girls in my family have a genetic tendency towards a certain type of cancer. Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. This Christmas and Christmas eve I was required to attend two long parties.I knew I would have trouble wearing shoes the whole time.I decided to try a over the counter cream called ZOSTRIX neuropathy cream containing capsaicin the natural active component of chili peppers.I guess it was kind of funny. So I put the cream on and about 10 minutes later felt a little itching and burning, then shortly I was ready to throw myself out the window.About 2 hours later the burning stopped for the most part, and there was no more pain.Party time arrived I put my shoes on,then the intense itching started. It reminded me of a Jerry Lewis movie.I went to the party. At dinner, the itching stopped and the rest of the evening went fine. Christmas day.I woke up and put the lotion on early hoping the burning and itching would subside before the next party.Wrong.I put my shoes on,and practicaly went insane. But I went to the party anyway.Lunch went fine the burning and itching stopped until we moved to the party room.I was standing up and here came the burning.Well the directions on the box says that unless you apply this hot sauce cream at least twice a day the burning gets worse! How could it possibly get worse?Maybe I should eat more jalepeno's! Anyway both parties went well. Merry Christmas |

I have found that relentless pain takes you on a journey. For the most part besides my wife I seldom speak to anyone.Every once in a while I have a adventure and make some new friends. My last friend was addicted to cough syrup. He would drink two or three bottles of the stuff and turn into Jim Carey.I have found some new music to listen to and aspire to create something new.Although my new life without alcohol may seem enlighting to some,I have spiraled into a sea of darkness and have found beauty in my misery. This new music I have found is odd and from Germany,Sweden and Finland. It is called Dark Metal.I seem to becoming more twisted and have been seeing visions in my head of people I really dont know that well.It feels like I can look into some peoples heart and understand things that are private in their lives.Maybe thats why the Aliens chose to talk to me.I have traveled to the other side of midnight.I am now going to a new place,A place I have never been before to visit with someone that in the past was afraid to know.if you are a adventurious soul and curious you might search MySpace for a band named Candy Cane. There you will find links to all kind of unusual bands. |

Dragonfly i really feel what your going through, i cant pretend to know the pain your going through because i have never experienced it, but i have seen many who have. One thing i can tell you is that line of thought makes the pain worse and from what you write i really doubt that you will manage to go through it alone, The world is a big place there many people who can help take for example staying sober can be made easier with certain drugs these are availble in centres for these problems which affect many people. without them your system crushes and one goes into very severe depression you have all the danger signs please dont go it alone and for the neuropathy again there many places that can help you , but surgical truma centres can sometimes make life bearable especially when drugs cant help and surgical intervention is required to reduce the pain and if one center fails try anther centre more specialized and keep trying. I truely wish you the best , but you are doing things the wrong way thats why its so hard. We choose to go to the moon and to do other things, we choose to go to the moon not because its easy but because its hard. kennedy |
