A new beginning and a new hope?

(Almost sounds like a Star Wars episode!...)

This may be of interest to those in the USA:

Congrats Obama: After 8 long years of Bush - a fresh start

Here's hoping!

Cheers,
Martin

I'm just glad I won't be getting political phone calls until close to the mid term elections

My best wishes and congratulations to the good citizens of the USA. You have voted for confidence in a better future and the world will salute you and your choices.

Never mind the state of the stock markets, your stock in the market of world opinion has been raised by a record amount. I hope you will appreciate how happy this result has made the rest of us. Yours is once again a country that can be looked up to for the progress of humankind.

I admit to not voting Obama, but I am glad he won. My prayers and support will be with him and his new administration in the coming years.

There certainly are a lot of expectations to him, on different levels. Many different levels!

I just watched a program on tv about the election and Obama's victory, and there were two African-American persons, who both live here, there, a woman and a man, and that woman said that for her Obama is the epitome of a man. As the sex. I said out loud "What???", but if that is how he is perceived by a lot of the female voters, there lie some heavy expectations on him, because what if he shows himself as not as desirable as a man later on? That issue about the heavy expectations on him was also discussed.

Since the days of JFK, I don't think that there has been any President capable of lifting the USA.

Maybe Obama can do it...........we'll see!

Well, congrats to all the US citizens.

Actually, I rather liked Obama and hoped he would get in. He's full of youth as well, so he might bring something fresh to politics and especially to foreign policy.

it is my opinion that mlk's dream is not fullfilled by president elects no matter the color but more how man sees and treats man. this election is not necessarily about obama as much as enough of something else. yes, obama is a smooth talker with loads of carisma, but he is no more than just another politician who has lied and done what it takes to get that next step on the ladder. read the following: http://www.nader.org/index.php?/archives/2083-Between-Hope-and-Reality.html

people continue to dance about the upcoming change yet is it not the same damned change uttered in every election for 150 years? change? okay, the hagard change was heeded next to the worst case gop nomination possible, an old arrogant chap with a face chiseled with rigid and all the things many are tired of. but will it be any different with the other guy and other team within the same framework, same agendas at root, and ultimately the same core from which our country runs. yes, debatable no doubt, but in my short time following elections and the result I know one thing for sure, many talk this and that and rarely live it.

personally, I lost faith in both of the two self-promoting big parties to propery run this country, but no matter who is running the place I hope the best for that person and their hopefully sincere efforts to get the job done for the country first, not party or personal gain.

order number one, fed income tax 39.6%. lovely.

I'll skip the prayers... But:

Mr. BADWOLFBAY is one of those Americans who inspire us in the EU. At least some of us.

This kind of attitude - based, I think, on the ideals of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence - is rare here in Europe. Our states are not founded on ethical and moral principles as is the U.S. of A.

So, my heartfelt gratitude to the people of the United States, with the hope that you will join us in the pursuit of global happiness and brotherhood. In 1776, your Founding Fathers established modern democracy and your great nation has, by and large, stood by those principles. Yes, I have issues, but at the moment I don't care.

back on topic

Have you all been seeing some of the footage of people around the world celebrating the end of the Bush/Cheney administration?

Never have I witnessed such worldwide elation at change in the White House.

I like Obama, but his days are numbered, I fear!

I have stated this several times in different posts in various threads.....

There are simply too many 'good ol' boys' down south that are having their minds blown right now for this not to happen.

Don't get me wrong........I do hope I am wrong.......but I fear I am not.

But it scares the heck out of me......Biden WHO?????

One of them 'good ol' boys' is gonna lose his nut and do the deed......not a conspiracy like JFK....

And then there is the other camp that thinks the extremists will take him out because 'if you are no longer one of us you are one of them'.......

I would rather see him live out his term and prove what he can or cannot accomplish.......

If something bad was going to happen the biggest opportunities have already passed. Those big events with 100K people have the least security per audience member. Someone could have smuggled in a weapon or a group could have brought in individual pieces of one and assembled it. You wont see any of those big rallies anymore and he'll have tons of security around him now.

Well I just hope you're right. But it will be a nightmare for the security guys around him.
I believe the biggest threat does come from the race-hate groups. But I'm not convinced that the worst of the threats has passed.
I think Obama's still in great danger.

The secret service is very good at what they do. The only way to get to someone under their protection is if you are willing to trade your own life in or have the backing of a nation to do something like a UAV with a missile.

I suspect the most likely time would be at the celebration he'll go to in Iraq for when out last soldier comes home. He'll be depending on foreign security which isn't as good and in a place full of those intent upon doing the United States harm.

The president of the United States never depends on foreign security.

When presidential visits are made even to Canada, the secret service has a full contingent of fully armed agents on duty.
The gun laws in Canada do not permit some of the weapons they bring but exceptions are made for the president.

The unmarked crates of weapons are landed in a seperate plane before the president arrives.

For PR purposes, the locals are lead to believe that their own police are used for security for the president.
The truth is that the local forces are only there for display purposes.
The real security is covered by the secret service.

I think these guys are some of the most dedicated security types in the world and the belief that nothing will happen to the president on their watch is ingrained into their souls.

For the duration of the two terms of this Obama administration, the secret service will be on even higher alert than usual.
It's just a matter of pride for them.
