Hi dear friends from Europe!

It's time for all of us who live in Europe to do something to help SETI. As you know the Berkeley University of California started this project and spends every year lots of money to keep it alive.

The last time as you can see the project needs new and better Hardware equipment and for this the project needs more money.

Now its time for all of us who live in Europe to do something to support the SETI project.

Can we do something to help SETI ? YES we can do!

We can contact the European Commission and the local EU bureaus. All European citizens they have the right to ask / request your local EU bureau and of course the EU commission to fund / support a project. It's your/our good right.

I don't know if the EU commission it's gonna support and fund SETI, but we don't have nothing to lose. We have just to try and ask it!

Anyone of you who can wright in perfect English a very nice application/ letter please do it for all of us and then we can post/ send it to the EU Commission and our local EU bureaus asking our politicians to help SETI.

Other ideas, proposals or whatever are welcome!

SETI needs our support and we can help!

Actually, it doesn't have to be in English. Such an application should be accepted in any of the 23 official languages.

Thats a very good idea.

I have sent to my local EU politician such an e-mail last year. He responded to me a few month ago and was telling me, that they do not have the money, to support an American project. :-(((((

But, (and thats my evaluation), if they receive a couple of such messages, they will change their mind. (I hope)

@champ

Thats true, some or lots of local EU bureaus will react exactly this way and for this reason i suggest to wright a good letter direct to EU Commission too.

These guys there (EU Commission) they decide where, how, when and how much the EU will spend annually and believe me a part of the money goes to Science projects.

About near a 5% of the budget they spend goes in projects and organizations out of EU and Berkeley it's outside of EU.

All we have to do it's to bring our request on the Table, once this topic is in agenda then they have to decide between a yes or no, in this case we have the 50% good chance that some EU spends will go to SETI.

I live in EU and im paying my taxes like all of you who lives in EU and it's my and your good right to ask our politicians to spend some of our taxes to the SETI project.

Here i have the page of the EU Commission: http://ec.europa.eu/ - please choose your language and find more informations about how we can contact them and how we can ''push'' them at least to put our issue in their agenda.
Believe me if they receive a dozen of letters/emails from people from all EU countries we have a good chance to help and support SETI.

@ all
One EU bureau or department of the EU Commission is for foreign citizens/organizations/institute and the Berkeley University as you know it's an education institute.
Still i don't have the address but if we can find the address/homepage of this bureau/department we can share it with all SETI users around the world to ask the EU Commission to support SETI.

Ill be back later or tomorrow with many informations i can find what we can do to support SETI.

We need to find a easy way, to contact the biggest Seti Teams in Europe. Over the Teamwebsides we can publish a letter, which the teammates have to send to the Commission.

SETI is a different organisation than SETI@home, the latter is where you others from Europe are here. Please don't mix that up when you write to some officials.

One thing you might point out when writing is that although the project is headquartered in the U.S., participation is very much worldwide. BOINCstats BOINC combined - Countries overview shows that only slightly over 1/4 of users have listed their country as the United States. The breakdown for S@H would probably be a little different, I haven't found a stats site which has that particular analysis.

If the statistics of all the members of the EU were added together they'd be only slightly behind the U.S. in participation. Adding in a fraction of those who have specified "International" might even make the figures equal. If somebody has the resources to download the S@H stats dumps and extract the needed information, it could make a powerful argument for some EU funding.

I have all email addresses of the European Commission and the contact emails and telephone numbers for other countries too.

Believe it or not the Eu commission has one bureau in Washington too which means SETI users from USA they can take part on this action and together we can try to help SETI.

Now all we need is one good short letter with good arguments why we are asking the EU to fund SETI.If anyone of you can wright something that we can use it as Template/example it will be really nice.

Since the European Commission actually does give substantial financial support to projects of non-EU countries, the SETI Institute and the University of California at Berkeley should both apply for such support. I will ask my local EU bureau about the possibilities I have to support such an application.

Hi Helsionium,

the EU Program for a non EU Applicants organizations/institute called CORDI and the University of California at Berkeley can ask for financial support from the EU from these both addresses:

http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.FP7DetailsCallPage&call_id=139

or the EU Commission delegation in Washington:

European Union - Delegation of the European Commission to the United States
2300 M Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037
Telephone: (202) 862-9500 Fax: (202) 429-1766

Some data of the current CORDIS EU packet for space programs:
Publication Date: 03 September 2008

Budget: € 51.500.000

Deadline: 04 December 2008 at 17:00:00 (Brussels local time)

As you can see the EU has a budget of 51,5 millions euro for space programms the SETI Administration can send a request for support and with a little bit luck perhaps the EU will help.

Thx Carlos, but what i mean is, we need a platform to contact all in once. I am still registered at SG and L´Alliance and will not write on every forum.

What i mean, is a platform like this or like this.

There are a lot of things to organize, before we send out something to the commission.
