Message 816983 - Posted: 11 Oct 2008, 8:05:55 UTC - in response to Message 816975.

Good morning Sutaru!

Well... my first optimized wu is done...

13 hours and 10 minutes...

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1017128985

but I don't know if the result will be validated until the wingman terminated it...:)

Best regards.

My first one just finished in 13.5 hours = 1.5 hours for 5% on Stock and 12 hours for 95% on Optimised. So it looks like the gain will be slightly more than 50% (just over 26 hours on Stock to less than 13 hours on the Opp App).

2 more AP WU's are currently crunching that started under the Opp App an should finish in the next 5 hours.

Oh - and it validated as my wingman reported first.

PS core temps certainly no higher (maybe slightly lower) than crunching MB with AK V8 SSSE3x.

F.

Yes, it's expected ratio. Pre-release testing gave approx the same values.
And temperature increase could be anticipated relative stock AP but not AK8 MB.

Hi Raistmer, this will kill the need for crunching without a wingman ;)
I wander if anyone, has tested it on XP64, running a AK_V8_WINX64_SSSE3x and the new 32BIT AP optimized app.
On this host (QX9650@3.4GHz), I also crunch (32BIT)EINSTEIN and ocasionnally run into (ONLY) EINSTEIN error's.
Will try this NEW optimized application, after the weekend, cause I'm to busy right now.
And, ofcoarse a BIG THANK YOU, to all who have worked on this NEW OPTIMIZED application. A tip off the hat to you all..

One of my own hosts operates under Win2003 x64. Think it's pretty close to WinXP x64 in aspect of testing boinc science apps. It runs x64 SSSE3 AK v8 version and did some of AP tasks with this x86 release. No problems was detected. Also it runs current einstein stock app.

In general, other science apps running on multicore system could influence on each other but only via competing for common resources like memory or L2 cache. Most often it can change speed of processing but only in rare case could influence on another app stability (most likely for high OCed host and, again, in indirect way - via overall CPU temperature increase for example).

[BTW, it's topic for separate discussion - what app pairing is most optimal for different types of CPUs and projects involved. Most evident case is quad with limited RAM volume. If it will run 4 app with high memory demand its performance will degrade significaly. But if high-demand app will be paired with low-deman one (from another BOINC project), total host performance will be much higher. The same applicable to L2 cache memory resources.
Unfortunately, there is no ability to create pairing rules in current BOINC version beside manual control by suspend/resume separate tasks in separate projects AFAIK. It's too tiring to conduct such investigation with so poor support from BOINC framework]

Woohoo!

My first all-optimized Astropulse work unit is at 32.456%/09:35:48 on Cruiser. I also have two partially-optimized ones at 92.880%/50:21:41 and 83.885%/44:08:18.

The new optimized application is the greatest thing since sliced bread ... or maybe even since the wheel!

a BIG THANK YOU, to all who have worked on this NEW OPTIMIZED application. A tip of the hat to you all.

I second this!

My Q9550 overclocked to 3.86 gig was doing AP work units in just a few minutes over 24 hours.

After installing the new optimized AP app my completion times have been cut in half to 12 hours plus or minus a few minutes.

This is really a great addition to the efforts to do Seti tasks.

Thanks to all the testers and Guys who wrote and compiled this app.

First AP work unit is a combination of optimized and non-optimized.

In my case, there are something... 'wild'? The claimed credits are 444... It's normal?

Well, It's only the first ap wu what I crunched.

@FJV - I'm running a AK_V8_WINX64_SSSE3x and the new 32BIT AP optimized app but under Vista64. Also o/c'd to the limit.

If it will be validated - yes, it's OK.
Your task give less credit than usual because of early exit
"

"

But was this event by error or by data in WU - will see after validation.

Thanks Jason!

In other words, my 13h timing in ap is not valid...

I must to wait to another ap wu to know how is the timing...

Thanks, and best regards.

So far the ones that were confirmed by a wingman have finished with out errors and have been awarded 740+ credits each. I have only 5 completed since optimizing. I do not expect any errors but time will tell.

Will keep you advised as more finish crunching.

It definitely looks faster on my SSE-capable older Athlon.

More to the point, it looks like optimized Astropulse is twice as fast, while the optimized Multibeam is hardly worth the effort on this CPU.

I've also had the same problems as you Fred with AP on an XP64 system running the 64 bit MB AK app. I've already got the AP-OP-APP installed and have re-enabled AP on this system. I have a couple in queue, but neither is close to starting. So let's see what happens. :-)

And, ofcoarse a BIG THANK YOU, to all who have worked on this NEW OPTIMIZED application. A tip off the hat to you all..

That sentiment fits mine quite well. Thanks again to all the optimizers out there!

I've bitten the bullet and installed the optimised AP 4.35 on my C2D @3.375GHz, Normally 31 hours,
& my 45nm C2D Laptop @2.1GHz, Normally about 50 hours,
and also my P3 @895MHz, It did a Beta WU in about 18.5 days (AP 4.21), not sure if that version was quick or not, or if ran to completion, we'll see.

Boinc has calculated about 8 hours on the Penny.......we'll see how close it is when they hit the fan.
