Hello Folks, I think my BOINC just recently updated itself. Now, when i open up the BOINC MANAGER, i get a pop up dialog saying : "A reboot is required in order for BOINC to run properly. Please reboot your computer and try again." er... huh? BOINC is running perfectly in the background. all 4 cores are crunching. So I reboot. all 4 cores come back online and crunch away. nice! start BOINC MANAGER .. fail :( same error. SO i reboot _again_. and again. and again. i stop after the 5th reboot. anyone have any clues? OS: Vista Enterprise x64 bit. CPU: 4 core intel cpu. My BOINC is installed onto my R:\ drive .. which is a ram drive (which auto mounts on boot up .. .. and seems to be working fine cause boinc service seems to run and crunch .. ??) i'm not sure what version of boinc is running cause i can't get to the GUI :( please help! cheers :) |

Hello Folks, The installer for BOINC 6.2.18 and later puts a file in one of the BOINC directories (you now have 2 directories to worry about instead of one BTW). On boot, the deletion of this file happens before your RAM drive is started. Since the instructions on startup occur in a directory that does not exist (your RAM drive), the file is not deleted. Look in the boinc directories for a file that has a name something like reboot_required. Delete it. BOINC WIKI |

Look in the boinc directories for a file that has a name something like reboot_required. Delete it. found the file RebootPending.txt. i renamed/deleted that, and manager started. cheers!! (and the version of boinc says it's 6.2.18, now that i can open that up). awesomesauce and cheers! |
