Judge OKs $24M for cats, dogs sickened by pet food
CAMDEN, N.J. - A federal judge Tuesday approved a $24 million settlement for owners of dogs and cats who were sickened or died after eating pet food contaminated with an industrial chemical.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Noel Hillman clears the way for U.S. pet owners with claims to start receiving checks next year. A Canadian judge has scheduled a hearing for Nov. 3 to determine whether the settlement can also apply in that nation.

Under the deal, pet owners have until Nov. 24 to file claims.

...But lawyers in the case say the law is not on the side of their deeply felt sentiments, and a hearing on the settlement Tuesday focused on more routine legal matters.

The case began in March 2007, when dogs and cats began mysteriously getting sick. It turned out that the common thread was pet food produced under nearly 200 labels — much of it by Streetsville, Ontario-based Menu Foods Income Fund.

Sad story ... appears to have happy ending for the kitties:
32 cats, note from ill owner left with Ala. vets

OPELIKA, Ala. - Five veterinary clinics in eastern Alabama received 32 surprises in the last week: Healthy cats in containers and carriers, along with notes from an anonymous donor saying she is dying from cancer.

The notes signed by "Miss R" beg the vets to find her pets new homes.

"My time is very, very short," the donor wrote. "There is not enough time to find homes for my children another way. I beg you not to let them die because I have to, please!"

"Please do not kill!" was written in capital letters on each of the containers.

... "Other vets that I've talked to say the same thing, 'Let's do what we can to find these kitties homes,'" Bruce said. "These are her children. She took care of the situation the best way she could."

A sad story, yes. But it does sound like it shall have a good outcome for the kitties who were obviously a major part of the woman's life.
What pet could ask for more than for such a loving gesture in their owner's last days.....
May God bless her, whoever she may be.......some kitty prayers are in order for that wonderful person.

Talked to the folks at the kitty shelter today, and will modify our shopping list for Saturday a bit.......seems they still have some of the 400 pound delivery that I made 3 months ago left......they mix several different brands of food together to feed the kitties to increase the chance that the unhappy kitties will smell something they like, and when they are adopted they tell the new owner what kitty has been eating so they have a choice of what to get them in their new home.

So they would prefer Purina Cat Chow right now........
And they are terribly short of Purina canned kitten food...
And they would love any brand of laundry detergent......

So we will try to stock them up a bit on the items they are short on......

Ok, I might be pushing it, but can you get a list of the brand of detergents they would like. You may find some coupons with the next donation. Also I am pretty good at finding free stuff.

Get me a list Mark or have them e-mail it to me.

They did not care what brand the laundry detergent was, or whether it was powder or liquid........
The stuff we are getting tomorrow has no dye or perfumes in it, which should be better in case kitty has any allergies......

Anybody who is interested in helping can also peruse the Wish List page that lists what they are currently in need of, their email, and their phone number.

Thank you for asking, hon.

What I've said......

Has it really gone dwon

You think this is a joke,
just another court jester....

If those are your thoughts,
you are lower than ever.....

My hopes they are high, and tomorrow
brings new thoughts....

'Bout why I give to the kitties and just who ought
to consider the others who with this space we do share,,,

And why do some of you
mf'ers don't care......

Ya wan't to get it on 'wit me b****?
'Cuz I surerly can bring it........
So don't even try to
'Less you're sure you can swing it...........

So don't let your visions of manhood mislead ya.....
the Kittyman be here, and he never will leave ya........

So, poke and ya prod if ya need ta......
'Cuz I am bullitproof, and some of you all need to see that.
Ya want the link????
