I have to disagree with the "no science being done". We had a Dr. Kevin Douglas in from I believe it was Canada for part of 2007 that was doing work with the science we had. He was not looking for ET, but he was using the science for other things. He posted it in several areas of this board, etc. Let us assume for the moment that the NTPCKR had been available on day 1. The very first work unit comes back, and the NTPCKR looks in the database, and finds no other observations at that spot in the sky. The second WU comes back, and there have been no previous observations at that spot in the sky. Jump forward a year or so. A WU comes in, looks in the DB and finds a previous observation -- with no spikes, triples or gaussians. In other words, the Near-time Persistency Checker needs a body of work to Near-time Persistency Check. We've been building that background, that list of earlier work units to check against. That may not be "big science" in the way some people might want, but building that database is necessary to make the NTPCKR go. |

It looks like the stats were generated today, we will see in a couple of hours or so. No joy at Boincstats for today's update. Hopefully it will pick up the most recent XML tonight and tomorrow's update should have some big numbers..... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I don't post much to the forums, don't belong to a team and don't really care about stats much. I gave up seti for a while when they switched from Classic to BOINC cuz they said what I did up till that time wouldn't count on the new format. I changed my mind and came back because I believe in what they are doing, credit or no credit. I run at least two programs that only have work once a month for about a week and have had a couple more quit on me since 1999 when I started with Seti Classic. A couple didn't let you know for months at a time what was going on. We are looking for a needle in a haystack or a diamond chip on a sandy beach. I think they are doing a very good job. Sorry the in fighting has to happen, but that is what all families go through in times of stress - well at least most of the families I know. Everyone gets frustrated once in a while about a dead computer - whether it is theirs or mine. stan |
