I just downloaded version 6.2 to run on Vista. Now My bonic tasks use 100% of the CPU, even though I have my preferences set to suspend. I've tried creating new preferences, using the Perferences in the GUI, all to no effect. Only Setting activity to suspend will work. I was happy to see a vista friendly version of bonic but I'll have to drop out entirely if I can't get my machine back! |

Check in Task Manager that boinctray.exe is running. This little program checks for keyboard and mouse activity, signalling BOINC if you are idle or not. |

Boinc-Seti, just as with the original Seti, is designed to use all the free available CPU power of your machine. It also runs at the lowest priority, which means that as soon as another task requires the CPU it frees up that needed power. Most people (gamers excepted) only use only 1 or 2% of the computers capabilities. This is what ditributed computing is design to take advantage of. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

I uninstalled and reinstalled bonic and that seems to have resolve the suspend issue. SETI won't issue any new work to my machine for the moment but my other project is suspending correctly. Thanks for the comments. |

If you set your preferences online via your account, then the preferences aren't adhered to until it contacts the servers again. Uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC will force communications to the project, and so will pressing the Update button on the Projects tab. |

I had updated the projects, resync with BAM!, etc any number of times. |

I am having the same problem. I have set my online preferences and updated the project but still the same. It suspends when the laptop is on battery but not if it is plugged in and in use. |

Are you using the correct set of preferences? I.e. Default, home, school or work? |

Also, check the UI to see if you are set to "run always" rather than "run based on preferences". ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

same problem, posted about it in BOINC forums, there are more people reporting this problem. I went back to 5.x. You said you reinstalled and it worked, now try restarting your computer and see if it still works. I reinstalled and it worked, then when I restarted it went 100% of the time again. jack |

It works for one session after a re-install and then I get 100% after a reboot. I guess I can try the older version, but then I'll be prompted to confirm admin everytime I restart. |

You said you reinstalled and it worked, now try restarting your computer and see if it still works. Install BOINC as a service to avoid the prompt (but you lose the keyboard and mouse activity detector that way too). ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

I believe I have figured out what the problem is and have posted a new build for those who want to give it a go. Windows x86 Windows x64 Please post a message here if this fixes your keyboard and mouse activity detection issues. Thanks in advance. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |
