I just reluctantly aborted the AP job and received some MB data to crunch. The machine I'm using is a single-processor 1 gHz machine, and after watching it run for two weeks, it appears that the AP job would not have finished until sometime in January 2009, long past the deadline. |

Sorry to the who created AP, but it seems that my PC isn't able to crack those things in the time. I don't f***ing want to have some more of it. Any Chance? "... but never eat the yellow snow!" Inuit wisdom |

To make sure you're not getting any more Astropulse-work, change your SETI@home preferences, by de-selecting Astropulse. "I make so many mistakes. Yes.....even my old PIII will finish in time, assuming no extended power failure ! I am having a hard time adjusting to the new dynamics of AP. It used to be that I was on a steady stats climb, some times more agressive than others depending on if I could kidnap my daughter's computer. Now, with AP, and depending upon who (near you in the stats) gets AP units, and when they get them, life is like a roller-coaster. After a nice jump in stats (usually due to the completion of multiple regular WUs), I begin to experience a slow decline while crunching AP WUs, and run into a panic, check every computer, and worry what on earth could be wrong. Then with the completion of the AP WU, I'm back on track, until I start on the downslope again. I'm not so nauxious from the ups and downs anymore, and I just sit back and wait. Hell..... I love this ride. Keep on crunching! |

Hmm .. on of my good old PII-450 is crunchin for it´s life on a Astropulse unit. It seems the poor thing will miss the deadline (it will finish in 6h - ~4h late) The deadline is:9 Sep 2008 18:58:00 UTC The workunit is: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=948621871 Is there a chance to extend the deadline a few hours? Poor old PII was crunching 24/7 on that thing for about 690h now. Thanks, KyleFL |

Hmm .. on of my good old PII-450 is crunchin for it´s life on a Astropulse unit. Worry not about the deadline. All that happens when the deadline expires is that the WU is sent out to another cruncher to process. Since there are no machines out there in cruncher-land that can process an AP WU in 6 hours, your result will be returned before any new Task that is generated, so your result will count (as long as it validates OK). Hello again. Result was uploaded and credit was already granted *YAY* Even a PII-450 with nothing more than MMX down his pants has managed to finish an astropulse workunit sucessfully. It took him 2,504,847.00s (695,8h --> ~29days) Regards, KyleFL |

Hello again. And......his work became the canonical result and went into the science database. Give him a 5 minute break, a 700 hour electron change and start him up again. That's a great box! Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

I agree.I've been using a 400 MHz PII Deschutes on Linux from April 2004 to January 2008 running SETI and Einstein. Now I have an AMD Opteron 1210 at 1.8 GHz, always on Linux, running 6 BOINC projects and I have 10 SETI WUs on pending credit status. It crunched its first Astropulse WU in 115 hours and now has received its second AP with an expected time of 43 hours. Tullio |

Boinc's estimated time may be 43 hours. If the first one took 115 hours, then the expected time is about 115 hours. Astropulse WU's are very consistent - unless they drop out early because too many pulses are found. F. |

OK. I shall report the real time. Meanwhile, my TDCF in SETI is 0.218825. Tullio |

No break alowed :) But I changed my prefs to Seti enhanced only. That way there is no risk in going over the deadline and the poor PII can relax a little bit ;) Hello again. |

Can anybody explain what's the thing with the stated deadlines of the AP units? My units deadline was two days ago, my computer finished the WU _today_, two days later. And now all the claimed credit is granted - w00t! On the other side: My computer (@ home, does NOT crunch 24/7) worked about 1 month. I didn't expect to get ANY credit, because the original given deadline was elapsed for 1+ day (and I allowed my computer to crunch 24 hours for some days, normally that's ~6h/d). So I changed my preferences to NO AP units. Why the short given time span? "... but never eat the yellow snow!" Inuit wisdom |

AP requires a higher Duration Correction Factor than the MB units. That's why the estimates are a bit off. Returning them a day or so late isn't that big of a deal. We have a hard enough time to have anyone to run them. And with the long completion times, even if you missed a deadline, I doubt the replacement unit would be turned in before you. |

I just upgraded from the AK_V8 client to 6.2.18 so I could help out on AP. My messages say: You still have an app_info.xml file, which points to the optimized app. If you want to use the standard app in order to run Astropulse WUs simply delete it or modify it according to examples given on the forums. I am running Linux and cannot show you my app_info.xml file. I am running MB WUs with an optimized app of the AK_V8 kind and Astropulse WUs with the standard app. Tullio |

I just upgraded from the AK_V8 client to 6.2.18 so I could help out on AP...... You can't 'upgrade' AK_V8 to 6.2.18 - that would be upgrading chalk to cheese. AK_V8 is a particular designation for a (SETI) science application. 6.2.18 is a designation for the BOINC client, which controls and manages the science applications for SETI and any other project you care to run. Within reason, any version of BOINC can be used to manage any science application - Astropulse runs just fine under BOINC v5.10.13 |

I just upgraded from the AK_V8 client to 6.2.18 so I could help out on AP...... OK - so I can run AK_V8 for MB data and AP will still work as a seperate application.... |

OK - so I can run AK_V8 for MB data and AP will still work as a seperate application.... Yes, but you will have to manually install/configure Astropulse... But, I recommend waiting a while before starting Astropulse... I think I see an optimized version on the near horizon. Regards, JDWhale |

I crunched this APU for 6.5 days, completed successfully, but got 0 credit. What's up with that? |
