cricket-graph looks good and server status too,

A closer look would show that things aren't quite right.
After a a sustained surge in download traffic, it dropped right off due to a lack of work; the splitters are unable to produce enough work for the present demand, let alone build up a ready to send buffer.
And given the present server load due to the demand for work it's impossible for many of us to even return finished work at the moment.

Can anyone say why is a master file being fetched. I don't recall seeing this too often, if at all, but now I do.

I'm pretty sure I'll be saving some power tonight, as both seti and einstein will be running dry before my first beer tonight.

The master file is re-downloaded after 10 failed attempt to get work.

Thanks. That almost makes sense, but I wonder what the logic behind it is.

On another vein, why didn't CommandCentral turn on AP for just a couple of days and then let the system recover. Leaving it on (and starving the non-AP people for wu's) doesn't seem like good planning. Of course, I'm assuming that AP is the root of the current evil; seems like a good bet, however.

Wow! I just got three (3) WUs.
One is my first AP, too.
Yippee. :)

Lucky, RtS buffer is at 0, Rresult Creation Rate is as good as 0 (0.95).

Edit- i spoke too soon, the splitters have woken up again & have hit 7.7

If anything, AP would/will help, since anyone who gets an AP WU is going to stay busy for quite a while and not pester the busy servers.

I think one of the other threads said we just got a bunch of shorties, plus those who run Einstein with SETI as backup....

I don't know, I've got an Astropulse WU with 100 hours left to go....

Well, that probably answered my question. I just set up BONIC on a second machine and want to verify that it works, but I keep getting the "no work" message on it. I guess I'll let it run overnight and check it tomorrow.

It's a really old machine, so if it gets data it will probably be a week crunching it. I won't miss it if I blink!

I'm pretty new here and was under the impression that SETI was hopelessly overwhelmed with raw data.

Don't let the current situation change your impression too much.....
This is the first time in quite awhile that work has been hard to come by here. I am sure that in the next day or two things will be back up to speed.

Has anyone else noticed that at times like this, their slower machines are more likely to get work than the big crunchers ? None of my single CPU machines (crunching time > 4hrs) have run out of work while the I've had to swing the faster machines over to other projects to keep thm busy.

Maybe it's because they only request one unit at a time rather than a bulk download.

No, my slowest is about to run out and the faster ones have plenty of work...

Laws of averages and probability

Both machines will request work approx the same number of times if they are behind in their queue. If both machines get only 2 work units in a day, the slow machine is happy, the faster machine is still running out.

Probably more dictated by the length/size of cached work.

My C2D laptop is out of Seti and doing a couple of MilkyWay units. My C2D desktop has about 1 to 1 1/2 days work left. Then it will be going over to Rosetta if it can not get anymore here...

Hummm still no work - 80+ cores are idle..... a few machines still have some WUs left - I may have
to find something else to crunch for a while.

Lol.

I wish I had 80 or more cores. I could get a lot of experiments from my research done easily.

But there are plenty of other projects around. Good luck...

You're absolutely right . . .
And it looks like nobody cares, the lack off work, or is SETI at the END ?!?

Well I think it is now about 4:55am Monday morning at Berkeley, so I guess they'll be in in a few hours to give things a kick. Looks like the weekend elves are on strike again ;D

hi, guys,
also no work for me,
i am new to the project,
i have a laptop,
and i plan to run the program 24/7,
although the laptop temperature goes up very easy,
i use external airconditioners to cool it,
seti must always exist,
the universe is so big,
there must be a signal,
i also can't see the graphics,
i changed the preferences but still nothing,

I am getting no work, either. This is fristrating, especially since I'm used to haveing a lot of it. I checked the log and it seems that it hasn't had work all night. I leave my rig on 24/7 so BOINC can run when I'm not home. The longest it takes for me to process a WU is 2 hours. Do they allot how many WU's a rig can have or is it just luck of the draw?
