Message 791581 - Posted: 2 Aug 2008, 21:28:12 UTC

Both my machines are getting repeated messages:

"Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks"

and a few

"access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down"

OK, one machine is a recent rebuild and I could have broken the firewall or something, but the other has been running and stable for months.

Server status page nor the technical news reveal any reason for this. If there's a shortage of workunits for some reason, a post in technical news might stop people being concerned.

I have the same Problem since a week or so. Seti has a message for Apple Users, that there is a Problem to send new Projects, but I'm using Windows XP.

So, hopefully there will be an answer for Winders Users too. After all it's very satisfying, due to there information Politics and of course for our main search for intelligence.

The server status page DOES give you the answer.....
It currently shows 3 WUs ready to send and a creation rate of only .87 per second.....so there is nothing in the bucket and the faucet barely turned on.....

As to the cause......I guess Matt or Eric would have to chime in on that.

ah, OK. Didn't see that bit. It must have found some units though, because the one machine that was out of work now has 4 waiting. Also, it's snagged an astropulse one, which it says (I cheated, and set it running manually) will take about 45:20 and increasing to process. Since it took 6'48" to get to 0.1%, that would make about 113 hours. We'll see.

The result (WU) creation rate now shows 7.77 per second...so work is being split. It's just that they are being sent out as fast as they are being created. So when your rig phones home requesting work, it's a roll of the dice whether it contacts the scheduler at the exact moment it has a few ready to send out.
So you should stand a chance of getting a little work here and there.

True - but the creation rate is over 21/sec so there is a chance things will get better. :/

Yup, it did. Just got 3.

I was getting a little worried about that system. I had it attached to just E@H and Orbit. Well E@H is doing server work this weekend and I was down to my last WU. Orbit have been hit or miss for a long time...no luck there.

This should tide me through the rest of the weekend anyway.

The Cricket graph does show an average of 48.91 Mbits/sec going out to hosts. My Pentium-M host did happen to ask at the right time to get a day of work, 8 Very High Angle Range shorties plus 5 mid or low range with longer run times. My other two hosts haven't yet lucked onto a time when there's work available.

I think the basic problem is that the VHAR work being split simply makes the demand higher than the supply. And the supply is delivered in bursts, so if your host doesn't ask at just the right time some other hosts have already taken what was available.

Can anyone say why is a master file being fetched. I don't recall seeing this too often, if at all, but now I do.

I'm pretty sure I'll be saving some power tonight, as both seti and einstein will be running dry before my first beer tonight.

The master file is re-downloaded after 10 failed attempt to get work.

One reason you might miss work: if the scheduler moved to a new URL.

The scheduler URL is in the master file.

I just put a few of my mac mini's back on seti because Einstein is doing maintenance. Looks like it is not a real good time to get seti work either. I am getting a bunch of no work messages on a machine I just attached to seti. Oh well.
