No uploading? Reporting seems to work. Don't know about downloads. [EDIT} Just noticed that the upload server is disabled, so I guess someone knows about it. [/EDIT] Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

I was wondering why I had 8 WUs stuck at upload. Now I know why. The Cricket Graphs are showing no activity, but this is very very recent. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

all kind of server problems in a last few weeks, not good for them, they have to fix them, as if they don´t have anything else to do. |

Right -- it is possible that we may have a weekend outage to cope with. I've gone off and suspended SETI on my local workstations for now. I've suspended Einstein as well as they work thru the issues presented by the switchover to a new batch of work. So their server is in something of a ping pong mode. What with the various things nattering around over here, it means my two most venerable projects are, for the moment, in a 'time out' corner. That lets Climate, Rosetta and Spinhenge catch up a bit for me. thought it was just me until I saw that the upload server was down. Just have to wait until it comes back on, well it is nearly the weekend again. |

I understand -- it is just that when uploads stack up in a multiproject environment, it creates more traffic (retries). So I like to get out ahead of that by suspending work on workstations before they have completed work to upload. It tends to make for smoother running, and, after the specific project recovers, an easier restart on the workstations (less backlog to cope with). In the case of Einstein, at the moment, the entire site is offline, but over the past week, even when online, it has been problematic due (I think) to the behind the scenes work they are doing to move from one time of workunit set to another. For a while, I simply set for no new work. But with the entire site offline, I shift to suspend mode for Einstein. The good news about BOINC -- multiple projects to work with on each workstation. The bad news these days, it increases the chances that you will encounter one or more of the projects is having a bad hair day. Over the past few weeks, there have been periodic problems at Malaria (mostly short cycle outages there), Spinhenge (offline for about 12 hours earlier this week), Climate (mostly a case of credits being not reflected -- so I simply let it process), Einstein (see above) and SETI. I think I've not seen a full day in the past two weeks with all the seven projects I'm attached to all being clean. I'm not including Predictor, which pretty much has earned its Pariah status as a seriously mishandled BOINC project. no problem downloading just uploading |

Indeed -- at the moment the only bad boy in my list is Einstein -- I suspect they may be in flake city for a couple of weeks until the new SR4 stuff is clean and the SR3 stuff has flushed. Of course, in my bad boy list I don't include Predictor -- that project probably should have been proscribed from BOINC land a long time ago. Upload server back online!!! |

Seems like a thought -- though I doubt the folks 'running' the show over there would notice. That really is a site which simply should be closed down until there is management interest in running a shared processing research project. At this point, it is more of a bad behavior psych experiment than anything else.
You mean the They've not been sent to Death Valley to install extra heaters? ;) LOL
|

Are there a whole bunch of short/noisy Work Units going through the system at the moment? Just had a look at the network graphs, and the traffic has been steadily increasing over the last few hours. Presently it's sitting at 82Mb/s (it's hit 92) and even the uploads are at 11.5Mb/s. The system's copping a pounding the likes of which would normally only occur after an outage. Grant Darwin NT |

The 05jn08aa and ac, and 10jn08aa and ab data I've gotten in the last half hour is all Very High Angle Range short work. The overflow rate shown on the Science status page is only 2.3% for the last 10 minutes, so unless I just picked a quiet time to look it doesn't seem there's a noise problem. Joe |

Must be a lot of short work then- now downloads at 95Mb/s, uploads at 14Mb/s. And steady. Grant Darwin NT |
