"July 25, 2008
We've started creating work for SETI@home's new Astropulse application. At first we will just create a small amount, but we expect to enter full production next week."

How to get work for Astropulse when using optimized SETI@home application?

Henri.

You will need to add some lines to the app_info.xml file.

They plan on releasing one here in a couple of days.

I´ve read that a WU Astropulse will take about a weak. What kind of CPU is this calculated on and is it a 24/7 running computer. With only 14 days return it takes most cruncers out.

I´m running an AMD XP 4800+ @ 2,5 GHZ.
Most astropulse units was running 4 - 5 days at beta.

Then my AMD 3500+ stockspedd 2,2GHz that´s not running 24/7, 50% share would have trouble fininshing in time with only 2 week deadline.

On my old Opteron-242 running at 1.6 GHz, it seems will clock-in on 6.3 days cpu-time, while on C2D-4400 running at 2 GHz it takes around 55 hours cpu-time.

So, any Core2-duo or Core2-quad crunching atleast 25% of the time can run Astropulse, while a 1.6 GHz Opteron/Amd64 must crunch atleast 60% of the time.

The faster the computer, the less time it needs to crunch to meet the deadline...

You can crunch all of the Astrokitty some of the time, and some of the Astrokitty all of the time, but you just can't crunch all of the Astrokitty all of the time....LOL.

With your Q9300 running at 3.525 GHz, would guess you'll use around 30 hours to finish Astropulse-wu's...

Hmm, it would be interesting to see, if anyone manages to use less than 24 hours on Astropulse-wu's, or if not, how long before it's possible...

I would think that's FP territory, Not UFP territory. ;)

Maybe when theirs an Optimized Astro app, Then I'd try It.

So, a X9650 @ 3400MHz., should do them in 15-18 hours....With a SSE4.1 or SSSE3 enhenced.
You also run an opti app., like the AK_V8_SSxE3/4.1 opti versions.

No there isn´t an optimized app for astropulse yet.
You have to run the official.

How to get work for Astropulse when using optimized SETI@home application?

Henri.

I don't have one handy offhand, but the procedure and tips for setting up the app_info file was covered over on Beta back we were running Joe's experimental MB app's for 9x and AP at the same time (around 12/06-1/07, IIRC).

You could probably use that one as a start and just make sure all the filenames and version numbers are updated to reflect what we have here on the main project, if you're looking to get a head start.

AFAIK......optimized does not work on Astrokitty.......

Uhh.. big news..!! :-)

How it will be?

I crunch 100 % SETI@home..
When and where I can get the new app_info.xml ?(I'm an opt. app user :-)
So how much % SETI@home Enhanced and how much % Astropulse WUs I will get?
How are the credits? It's the same like with SETI@home Enhanced?
When we will see opt. Astropulse apps?

Which kind of WUs are Astropulse WUs? What will be crunched there?

Questions and questions.. ;-D

It will be interisting to see how things sort out betwix Apple and PC flavors of AMD/Intel [Windows,Linux etc].

When we finally figure it all out, all the rules will change and we can start all over again.
