And I guess I cannot claim to be a 'green' cruncher, so long as I have that big compressor churning away atop the Frozen Penny...... "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

And I guess I cannot claim to be a 'green' cruncher, so long as I have that big compressor churning away atop the Frozen Penny...... That's easily fixed! Get a can of green spraypaint, then you can say "My compressor is green! See!" :P "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. And I guess I cannot claim to be a 'green' cruncher, so long as I have that big compressor churning away atop the Frozen Penny...... As usual, my Seti friends find a solution to the problem..... Off to the hardware store tomorrow for a can of green spray paint.... "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

And I guess I cannot claim to be a 'green' cruncher, so long as I have that big compressor churning away atop the Frozen Penny...... Look for "British Racing Green" so it will be both green and very fast. |

I vote for the green star color with a few kitty scratches for the "aged" look. Seems to be in style. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

And I guess I cannot claim to be a 'green' cruncher, so long as I have that big compressor churning away atop the Frozen Penny...... That'd be me........LOL. Just got me paddy whacked by the neighbors for playing me tunes too loudly....... Guess they didn't like the Boppers at warp 9... my rac has decreased from 3800 to 2100 on a e6700 processor machine using the V8 ssee3.1 app. that is a 21% drop

my rac has decreased from 3800 to 2100 on a e6700 processor machine using the V8 ssee3.1 app. Maybe you chould check your numbers... The way I do the math... it's closer to a 45% drop... |

my rac has decreased from 3800 to 2100 on a e6700 processor machine using the V8 ssee3.1 app. And he is right, mine has dropped too. So if anyones RAC loweres, tthere is also no difference, as we all go down. Then this will have no effect on rankings. I thought we wanted to 'find' E.T., instead off getting as much credits as we can, as it's a credit race!

True enough -- though some of the attraction is the rankings tables The thing is, if there are issues with the work units, that undermines the effort to 'find ET' -- and for me, that reduces the priority to do SETI compared to some other 'noble effort' (climate, disease, etc.). That is what is reducing my 'investment' in SETI at the moment, not the issue of rankings. [/quote] And he is right, mine has dropped too. my rac has decreased from 3800 to 2100 on a e6700 processor machine using the V8 ssee3.1 app. SORRY, that is 3800 to 3100... big difference... 100x(3800-3100)/3100=22.58

my rac has decreased from 3800 to 2100 on a e6700 processor machine using the V8 ssee3.1 app. I thought they were looking for a 10% reduction of credit, but actually achieved 25%.

Because RAC drops quickly if no results are validated for a few days, this time because of server problems last week, and rises slowly after the incident. Then it will take 3 to 4 weeks before you can make any conclusions on the effects of the credit adjustment. The only comparison we can make right now is to look at the figures compiled, by Joe Segur, in post 790209 with the present day figures in BOINC Combined Stats - Granted credit comparison. My quick take on that is Seti has reduced granted about 7% compared to the other projects. |

In light of the server issues, my RAC is down considerably, as well. I've gone from a pretty consistent 2200 to 1600-1700 (21-27% drop). I do have two AP units that are still pending, so maybe that contributes to the drop, but I've always had about 2000 credits pending all along, and that's about what I have now with two APs hanging in the air like that. Personally I don't really care about ranks and scores and whatnot, and really nobody should. I think I've seen Matt mention something about RAC/credits before (albeit a long time ago), which was something along the lines of "crunching isn't a competition, it's about the science. There's really no reason for the RAC and ranks and such, but that was added in to give people an idea of where they stand." Friendly competition, most of us build our own machines and like to see how our choice of hardware will perform, so I say RAC is important. To be honest it is the only thing that keeps me around.

Does the project offer more credit for those only interested in their RAC and diminish their own work just to keep those people happy, or should they try to play fair with other BOINC projects, reduce the credit and hope that those truly interested in the science will stick around? The project has to do the right thing. People will have to make up their own minds if they are staying or going. |

I watched my RAC go from ~136,000 down to ~99,000 before I put SETI on another 20+ machines to try and stop the bleeding. I seem to have leveled off at close to 127,000 now. My top performing machines are still losing RAC due to AP. Those that were getting close to 9,000 each, one is down to ~5,000 and others close to 7,000. After seeing a good deal of them not report in for long times and seeing upwards of 7 to 8 AP units (processing) on some of them at one time (8 cores) taking them out of the loop for 30+ hours I decided to stop processing AP altogether for now. I have a goal I am trying to reach credit wise and then I will turn AP back on and most of the machines off. Particularly the low yeilding ones. I only crunch SETI. I am in it for the science, but the large numbers of machines I can use on SETI are just for numbers. I wouldn't call myself a credit whore but it is nice to compare your machines and your efforts to that of others. As long as the credit drop is evenly distributed I don't see there is much to complain about. IMHO Rob

Maybe it would be good to have two separately 'credit counter' for 'SETI@home Enhanced' and 'Astropulse'?

I watched my RAC go from ~136,000 down to ~99,000 before I put SETI on another 20+ machines to try and stop the bleeding. Seen the same thing. Can ANYONE with the project please verify if there was an adjustment? 300+ posts to get this across with speculation is BS. From what I have seen, it looks like there's been a ~20%ish drop in RAC. After adding a couple more systems, I was looking at RAC of around 72k, but am barely holding onto 60k when my systems dump their data every other day... Let me also add that I am not processing ANY AP WUs, but am still losing credit...
