On the other hand.. this would mean a difference of 50 % between Astropulse and Enhanced!! OOoopsss..

Yes, but that's not really a fair comparison, what you should compare is your RAC running the non-optimized app to AP... Since AP is supposed to compare to plain vanilla Seti (in general terms).

Don't much like the brown stuff, myself... though I respect your right to do so! ;)

I'm more of a hot-sauce type, I like to think of the AK versions as being up there in the Habanero class.

Didn't know him at all personally, but I do miss his contributions to the boards. I hope all is OK for him and he just can't manage the time to deal with message boards.

Does the "rate of credit" also drop? For example, if I get about 5000 cobblestones per week in SETI@home in 2008 with my 2.8 GHz Pentium D, do I also get about 5000 cobblestones per week in SETI@home in 2018 with my 2.8 GHz Pentium D? The RAC drops, they say, but how about the "rate of credit"?

Eric stated in his post New Credit Adjustment

Q. Will the credit I get from my current machine go down as the middle of the road machine gets faster?
A. If you use a stock app, 6 months from now the machine you are using now will still get about the same number of credits per second that it will a month from now. For optimized apps, the rate of credit granted depends upon future release of SETI@home. (This is the case under the old fixed credit per FLOP system as well. The credit optimized apps get depends upon the credit multiplier in the stock app, which changes with each release.)

Other than that we can only wait and see. The other side of the coin in would seem that the credits for AP units are going up.

..SETI@home in 2018..
...

Uhh.. you think in very far future..

We must hope that SETI@home will live then also..

If the donations will reduce or stop.. hmm.. SETI@home will die..

EDIT:
On the other hand..
In 10 years the PC-power will increase..
Maybe 5 times more power than current..
And if the credit-system will not change.. we would have in short time many many credit millionaires here..
So I think the credit-system must be adapted..

Yes, of course..
BUT here we all around at this board we use opt. apps and we compare with opt. apps.. or? ;-D

And I thought the credits for opt.-app-results are smaller than with stock-app, or?

If I remember correct, the opt. apps have a different credit-multi?

Or how it was?

It was like something changed for longer time, that for the stock app 'user-credits' nothing changed, but the opt. app 'user-credits' went down little.
[I don't mean the last changing ;-D]

I don't mean that if I would let run stock app I would get more credits than with opt. app..! ;-D

Or how it was..??

AND:
Oopsss..
I must correct the data.. what I wrote here.

JDWhale's post
On a Core2 Quad @ 4 x ~ 3.2 GHz AP-WUs need 34 hours [and not 24 hours, but it was something with x4.. ;-D]

So this change something..

~ 710 Credits/AP-WU = 34 hours

~ 500 Credits/AP-WU = 70 % @ 24 hours x 4 Cores = 2,000 Credits/day

This would mean difference between Enhanced- and AP-WUs:

Enhanced: 5,800
AP: 2,000
= ~ 66 % less Credits

Why is this like this?

Why they don't increase the Credits for the AP-WUs?

Or I misunderstood something here?

And if there are credit-hunters out there, they think twice if they want to crunch AP-WUs..

So it looks to me like that if you crunch Astropulse you're gonna get fewer credits than if you crunch regular SetiatHome. Maybe in a couple weeks the two will become more equivalent.

BTW.
My AMD Athlon 600 have a RAC of 13.75 (@ 46 % runningtime) MMX opt. app
This would mean a RAC of ~ 30 if he would run 24/7.. :-D

So it looks to me like that if you crunch Astropulse you're gonna get fewer credits than if you crunch regular SetiatHome. Maybe in a couple weeks the two will become more equivalent.

The server-side adjustment for Enhanced will of course be somewhat biased by those of us crunching with optimized apps. When it settles out I expect that many of those running stock enhanced will actually get a better credit rate doing AstroPulse than Enhanced. Optimized Enhanced hosts will obviously get higher credit rates doing Enhanced than doing AstroPulse, I just hope that not too many are so concerned about credits that they decide not to allow AstroPulse work.

There are other factors involved, in effect the Enhanced adjustment will probably shift around depending on what mix of angle ranges is being delivered. There are also some sytematic differences between AMD and Intel, between Windows and Linux or other OSs, etc. which could make interpreting observed credit rates difficult.

I have 2 systems on which I've done both Enhanced and AstroPulse work at SETI Beta (stock apps for both). Doing Enhanced work the P4 1.6 GHz desktop system takes about 50% longer than the Pentium-M 1.4 GHz laptop, a ratio of roughly 3/2. Doing AstroPulse the ratio is more like 3/1. That P4 is a Willamette with only 256K L2 and is simply inefficient doing AstroPulse, so I'll keep it on Enhanced but do both with the P-M. I may even edit the venue I'm using for the P-M to only allow AstroPulse for some periods of time to compensate my overall ratio, though probably only after there's enough information to tell what ratio of work is being produced.
                                                            Joe

Well, there may some day be an optimized Astropulse app, but for the time being, there isn't one. You can compare the credits of an optimized app to a non-optimized one if you want, it's just more like comparing apples to oranges in my opinion.

And I thought the credits for opt.-app-results are smaller than with stock-app, or?

If I remember correct, the opt. apps have a different credit-multi?

If you do the same WU using an optimized app and the regular app, you get the same credit, it just takes longer with the regular app.

It was like something changed for longer time, that for the stock app 'user-credits' nothing changed, but the opt. app 'user-credits' went down little.
[I don't mean the last changing ;-D]

I don't think this is the case, there is a more general adjustment that's taking place right now, but it's for everyone, regardless of what they use, AFAIK.

And if there are credit-hunters out there, they think twice if they want to crunch AP-WUs..

Definitely!

Until then the AP bulletin will have to stay stock and to crunch It fast, you'll need some horsey power. ;)

I have the kitty power........
Just waiting to see how it all shakes out, and if the opti crew can do anything with it.
