I kinda identify with 'Leaving Las Vegas'.......
<snip>
If I only had every dime I spent on a pack o' gags back in my hand right now....criminy........I saved $24.00 or more just this week..........

Gonna do it.......meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooooooowww...and beyond.
Thanks JD.......

EDIT...BTW what the frack are you doing up at this time o' night????
I thought I was the only one that kept these wacky office hours.......

I love "Leaving Las Vegas"... (opening scene... shopping cart in a liquor store... I can relate) actually I like "going to Las Vegas" even more... heading there Tuesday for a long break ;-)

Yup, I explained to a friend about 10 years ago that if he quit smoking (3 packs/day) he could easily afford that new 4x4 truck he wanted just with the fag savings. He quit and bought the truck... somethings become easier when you dangle a carrot.

Been burning the midnight oil... Microsoft VisualStudio 2005 "trial" license expires today (needed for development with Intel compiler). I'll switch to a newer trial(90 days) version when I get back from Las Vegas.

I'll be poking in later tonight to offer up some JD (JackDaniels) induced support.

Good luck escaping Las Vegas......I am trading one vice for another right now.......whiskey.....cigs........whiskey......cigs......whiskey....OH......SHUT THE FRICK UP ALREADY..................

My friend Jack ang I have had some good times...he even gave me the nerve to ask a pretty little lady out one night back in 1998...we've been married since 2001. Thanks, Jack!! Best years of my life so far, and many more to come w/o Mr. Camel in my life.

I still do talk to Jack now and again, but he understands that I have alot on my plate and we can't get together as much. That's the best thing about friends, they understand without an explanation...

When you quit smoking you do drink more to compensate - fact. Just need to be sensible about it.

I can work with that...........compensating underway..............
But have still not bought any cigs..........

Keep up the strong will, and off the death sticks Mark and John. It is hard, but the days are passing, and the time off these cancer sticks is accumulating.

Good resistance both of you.

Mark, I am sure the kitties appreciate the cleaner air!

Mark and John

You have succeeded for a week. The week that others have stated are the worst part of coming off the weed.

This implies that week 2 should be slightly better, but still difficult and needing the will power to stay in top gear.

You know you can do it, and the kitties will appreciate it.

Mark..... it doesn't have to be difficult. Try the nicotine lozenges or nicotine gum, or the patches. (I liked the lozenges best.) They greatly enhance the chances of successfully quitting. You can buy 'em without a prescription, over the counter at the drug store.

It isn't necessarily the nicotine that's bad for you, it's the tars & stuff that is going into your body. Don't get me wrong, cold turkey has been done successfully, & whatever works is good.

Keep it up, & remember your kitties. What you smoke..... they smoke!

Hmmmmm, they have just started a programme at my work and offer an 8 week course of Zyban, Champix or Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) for those who want to quit smoking. They are charging the cost of just one prescription charge - £7.10 (they say 8 weeks worth of patches bought over the counter from a chemist could cost over £100). And they are throwing in a weekly 15 muinute session for 7 weeks with an experienced Stop Smoking Specialist.

Should I go for it?

By all means DO!!
It is still very hard for me to ignore the cravings...and I realize that I am being stubborn about it going 'cold turkey'....
But I do believe I am just starting to feel a hint of having a burden lifted from my shoulders...

Well Mark, the burden is only going to get less and less heavy on your shoulders if you keep going, so please do keep going! Although it is going to take some time, it will eventually get easier and easier to ignore the cravings and you should feel better and begin seeing a financial burden lifted off of your shoulders as well.

Just go one day at a time. If you start thinking of a smoke do something else. Pretty soon you'll feel the need less & less.

One day at a time. Good for you Mark.
