Doin' OK so far........actually went to the gas station on my dinner break from work this evening...hit the tyme machine to get a little cash 'cuz I didn't have any pocket money for sodas at work....got a sandwich and when I went to check out, the kid asked me 'how many'...meaning how many packs today...I never used to have to even tell him what brand I wanted, just how many...
When I told him I quit, he gave me a grin and a look that said 'Yah, right'...I took my sandwich and went back to work.
Same incredibly strong urge for one when I got home and sat down on the couch to visit Seti....settled for some orange sherbit instead....the stale smoke smell in the house tonight was not quite as bad as last night.....

Sooooo...I avoided buying any more for another day....think I'll knock off to bed early with the kitties before I start tearing the house apart looking for one I dropped somewhere...

They say the third day is the worst......oh boy.......

Later, friends.

Mark, you can make it through day 3 and beyond!
Keep up the good work. You will succeed.
If you feel the urge/need for a drag while browsing the boards, find one of the kitties. I am sure they would appreciate a few scratches under the chin.

You are doing great so far Mark! Just keep it up. I know this must be hard for you, but just think of the benefits: better health, less expense, etc.

OK......I have tried before.......but I am ready to quit.........

Anybody wanna give me some support???

I just took my last drag offa my last burner.....
Then I took a drag offa one I found behind the couch.......and believe me, I was searching for one.....

I'm gonna go to snooze with the kitties right now, and believe me, I am gonna have a Jones on for one when I get up.........

How 'bout some support?

Sorry for askin', but I am weak...........

Anybody gonnna join me?

I will if you will....

I quit smoking 3 packs of Luckys a day 30+ years ago. I went, as we say, cold turkey, just outright quit with none of the gimmicks. The next two weeks were pure D hell but I got through them. 15 years later I started dipping Copenhagen. After recent heart surgery, again cold turkey, I quit last August. I'm still suffering from the want but have substituted about 50 lbs of chewing gum since I quit.

It can be done but the motivation to quit has to be stronger than the addiction. I'll check back in from time to time to see how you are doing. Get yourself busy doing something out of the ordinary to help re-align your 'routine'. And keep a stiff upper lip.

Well....

Day 3 was not pretty......
Still haven't bought any......
The air in the house seems to be clearing up nicely...

But I noticed I was really irritable at work today.....and kinda spacey......
Seems harder to concentrate on things.....I suppose it's mind brain getting kinda cranky 'cuz it's not getting it's fix like it did every day for the last 20 years or so.....guess I can't blame it.....

Otherwise, I'm hangin' in there and rubbing a lot of kitty ears......

John....how's it goin' on your end?

Keep on going Mark! Maybe you should find something to distract you from the urge for a cig, maybe some gum?

Best Regards,
Luke.

And that is probably one of the biggest things I have going for me right now.....
It would be really easy to ditch the effort if I would not have to embarrass myself by telling you all that I had failed......
Thanks to all.....

Some people I knew use to pass distract themselves or keep themselves busy by eating Chocolate, Ice Cream, Strawberries, Carrots, whatever... Depends on what you like, but people can pass with their willpower... As before, Keep on going!

I can't imagine, but it must be pretty hard!

Neither was I, but nicotine gum for a month or two is sometimes what the doctor ordered.

Keep going there Mark.

The longer you stop, in the early days, the harder it seems as the body calls for the brain to quit. But, it will come right in the end, as we all urge you along.

I hope the week end is not as bad as anticipated, and take the kitties for a walk!

Remember that you will have more healthy days with your kitties and BOINC rig, if you give up smoking! You will also spare LOTS of dollars a year so your BOINC rig will get even more computing power! No cigars => Larger RAC.

PS. I have never ever even tasted a cig.
PPS. I have never drinked alcohol either.
PPPS. Am I too nerdy?

Plus, have you ever thought how much your kitties are smoking? On their little lungs, it's bound to be more than you did!

Have you noticed if they've become depressed & out of sorts now that "they're not smoking anymore?"
