What problems excatly do you have ? There is a very good install howto at the unoffical BOINC wiki : http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Installing_the_BOINC_Client_Software_And_Participating_In_A_BOINC_Powered_Project http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Installing_The_BOINC_Client_Software_on_Linux |

Easy: Open Synaptic. Search for 'boinc'. Check boinc-manager, boinc-client and boinc-app-seti. Apply. Alternatively, you may also (as root) execute apt-get install boinc-manager boinc-client boinc-app-seti You only live once. But if you do it right, once is enough! |

If you install the BOINC client and attach the project without installing the distribution SETI application, it would downloaded the SETI application from the project directly. If you stop the BOINC client and remove the file app_info.xml and setiathome-5* in the projets/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ sub directory where your BOINC client is installed, and start the BOINC client again with "./boinc_client -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" it will download the offical application. |

You only have got these procedure as I have described, and the BOINC client would download the SETI application automaticly. |

You only have got these procedure as I have described, and the BOINC client would download the SETI application automaticly. You need do following tasks : - Stop the BOINC client - change the directory to the directory, where the BOINC client is installed and cd projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu -> or if you did not know where BOINC is installed, you can do this via "find / -name app_info.xml" - you would get the location from the file app_info.xml. cd into this directory you get from the find command (without app_info.xml at the end) - rm app_info.xml - rm setiathome-5.* - cd ../.. - start the boinc client again with "./boinc_client -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" |

You only have got these procedure as I have described, and the BOINC client would download the SETI application automaticly. I did this exact procedure and everything work exactly as you explained it but the graphics still do not work. in the file that was returned to seti i got this information. freeglut (screensaver): failed to open display ':0.0' Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified I do not know exactly what it means but i think it means the graphics tried to start but didnt know how to attach itself to the x server useing kde. any help would be greatly appreciated. mark |

I've downloaded BOINC on my server running Debian but don't know how to get it to run. In the menu: View - pick Simple view. Works on UBUNTU . Split personality - who, us? |
