It looks like that on many tracks pit road is shorter than the curved track it bypasses. In other words it's a shortcut and racers don't go the indicated distance of the race. Maybe this was done so speed limits on pit road could be reduced for safety(?) However I can certainly believe that the cars really have to go farther than indicated because they must go wide around every curve, just like horses, dogs and anything else that goes around a closed loop.

Except for the fact that they don't go wide but take an inside line around the turns.

Most oval tracks are measured in the middle, therefore if you run on the low side, you may not travel the advertised distance and if you run high, you will run further. But the actual races are determined by the number of laps run, not the number of miles/kilometers advertised.

So when you go down pit road, you still complete the lap.

I tell ya what....watching Drag Racing in HD is something to behold. When seen with HD and a really good Surround Sound system....WOW!!!

Especially when a car grenades the engine at the end of a run.

HD has done wonders for racing industry making the action come to life :o)

I totally agree. HD has also done wonders for Hockey. Basically any sport that has objects moving at very high velocities will benefit from HD.

Is it not the Le Mans 24 Hour race next week end?

There will be some fierce competition with Audi entering 3 R10s and Peugeot entering 3 906s. The only other one who has been in contention in the last 2 years was Pescelaro team. (Spelt it wrong. Sorry)
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
