Hey lets Have all the oil companies dig up, tear up where ever they want to find oil!! and have no regard for area they are exploring!!

I am for exploration however the Oil companies have not shown to the masses that they can operate they equipment with hurting the surrounding in which the are exploring.

Example. The oil spill in Alaska to name one.

I work in the oilfield, for various companies(Exxon Mobil, XTO, Williams, OXY, EOG). Some of them are obviously more concerned with environmental contamination than others, but ALL of them try to keep any contamination to a minimum. Accidents do happen, and when they do, there is usually someone specific that triggered the event, the probably does not even work for the oil company, but are contracted to them. The big company always ends up taking the blame, because they are the overall responsible party. They have safety meeting after safety meeting, training after training, and the PEOPLE still make mistakes. I highly doubt that any policy that any company ever makes or enforces, will EVER make anything 100% accident proof. They keep trying.

$4.83 for Diesel in Roosevelt, UT.

Some individual always makes the mistake. Whether it is a Semi-truck driver, Tanker Pilot, Welder, whoever. The oil companies NEVER tell someone... "Hey, leave that valve open and drain that tank out into the forest/ice/ocean/desert/etc." With the price of crude between 2 and three times what it was just a couple years ago, it is all about money, hence the high price we pay for driving our greenhouse gas producers... :)

Slightly off on a tangent but still to do with fuel. This is the Boeing 737-800 that took me from Bristol to West of Eireland Regional Airport at Knock.

Love the paint job!

Bet you don't want to pay your flight's fuel bill, then?

Message 762470 - Posted: 3 Jun 2008, 16:06:17 UTC - in response to Message 756407.

In the UK we have fuel tax and VAT (@ 17.5%) loaded on the price of fuel before we put it in our tanks. This maans our greedy Treasury take about 68% of the money we pay for our fuel, and they have done very very well from the rising price of road fuel and the Tax gives the UK the most expensive fuel in Europe.

This raises the question - how expensive is your fuel just now?

I am currently paying - £1.209 per litre for derv (that is diesel) and £1.159 per litre for petrol.

This means a UK gallon costs - £5.50 for derv and £5.27 for petrol.

Converting this to US gallons and correcting for an exchange rate of ~ $1.96 per £1.

The US gallon would cost us - $8.98 for derv and $8.61 for petrol.

The rough £1 to Euro exchange is £1.00 buys EURO1.26.

So, our derv is EURO1.52 per litre and petrol is EURO1.46 per litre.

How much are you paying?

I remember when I took a trip to the UK a few months ago that gas prices were insane. Roughly $9/gallon when I filled up. Now I know why the public transportation is better there and why so many people walk all over the place. You rarely see a fat person in the UK!!!!

I remember the safety meetings... Only reason anyone ever showed up was for the company paid beer afterwards.

Gas prices spur plasma donations in U.S.

LAS CRUCES, N.M., June 3 (UPI) -- Rising U.S. gasoline prices are resulting in a corresponding increase in blood-plasma donations for cash, plasma centers say.

ABC News said Tuesday plasma centers across the United States are reporting growing numbers of donors as the price at the pump goes up.

"All walks of people come in to donate," said Debbie Sharp, director of a donation center in Las Cruces, N.M., "They're all saying the same thing. They all say they need a little extra cash to pay for gas."

Other plasma center officials say plasma donations have been on an upward trend in recent years, although they note that donations still tend to follow the economy's performance.

ABC said people who donate plasma twice a week could make roughly $50-$60. Plasma is a central component of blood and is used in drug manufacturing.

I wish i had your optimism! Public transport works ok ish in the city where theres at least one per hour. Where i live in the country its still a story to tell the kids the day you see a bus. We have to drive to get anywhere.

I went to gas my Luxo mobile yesterday as it was running on the reserve tank. It takes high test (Premium-high octane) which is now just over $4.00 per gallon. I stopped at $75.00 and then saw that this only got it to 3/4 full. (24 gallon tank) Kind of makes my stomach hurt thinking about it. Those of you who don't live in the US might not realize what a re-allocation this is from our average American's normal household budget.

On the way home I kept thinking that that amount of money would provide the entree' for 10-15 gourmet meals cooked at home for my wife and myself--maybe duck breast or steak.

I own a half dozen really good bicycles. I am now trying to scope out if there is a way to do daily shopping via bike path. I may even buy a cart to tow behind one of them. The exercise would be welcome as well.

There are reports of a massive oil find in North Dakota that dwarfs even Saudi Arabia-- I still think that Americans will take the threat seriously and will move away from price-fixed petroleum and the companies that provide it. It will take a good long while but there is a lot of resentment here--it doesn't matter if we are conspiratorially being hosed by corporations, The Cartel or by world demand or not.

You must have gone to London then? There is next to no public transport here where I live. A couple of buses a day. Diesel is $10 a gallon here now too :(

That's because our food is twice the cost of yours and we don't have many "eat all you can" places or donuts / muffins / pancakes for breakfast ;)

In a bit of hilarity, I ordered a bunch of stuff on-line from the LSE yesterday. A big bunch of logowear and giftware for people back home and whatnot.

I laughed like hell when I noticed it was cheaper to ship the whole lot back to the U.S., than it was to pay VAT and local shipping. The fuel here is so expensive, combined with the insane tax rates, that it was CHEAPER for me to send it, with a tracking number, 4000 miles away.

Needless to say, I shipped everything back to the U.S., AND avoided the tax entirely, AND saved money.
Cordially,
Rush
