In the UK we have fuel tax and VAT (@ 17.5%) loaded on the price of fuel before we put it in our tanks. This maans our greedy Treasury take about 68% of the money we pay for our fuel, and they have done very very well from the rising price of road fuel and the Tax gives the UK the most expensive fuel in Europe. This raises the question - how expensive is your fuel just now? I am currently paying - £1.209 per litre for derv (that is diesel) and £1.159 per litre for petrol. This means a UK gallon costs - £5.50 for derv and £5.27 for petrol. Converting this to US gallons and correcting for an exchange rate of ~ $1.96 per £1. The US gallon would cost us - $8.98 for derv and $8.61 for petrol. The rough £1 to Euro exchange is £1.00 buys EURO1.26. So, our derv is EURO1.52 per litre and petrol is EURO1.46 per litre. How much are you paying? It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

I´ve just filled up my car amybe an hour ago. One litre petrol costs today €1.50 wich is nearly the same. The litre diesel cost €1.48. What i find interesting is that derv (diesel) is more expensive in England than petrol. I think the price of both will be equal in germany soon. Half a year ago it was a gap from 5 cent now its only 2 cent. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

The price of Regular Unleaded, (87 Octane), in/around Danville, CA is $4.00/U.S. Gal. It is more expensive in San Francisco. From the general data I found this morning; I also have that the average price in the state of CA is $3.96/U.S. Gal. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

In the U.S., Diesel is typically $0.20 more per gallon than gasoline, which is flirting with $4.00/gal (unleaded regular). |

It is interesting to see the price of fuel quoted by Mike (assuming his example is typical) makes German fuel as expensive as the UK. The US is paying less than half our price, but you do use poorer petrol than Europe You quote the price of regular (87 octane) which is not available in the UK. Our lowest grade of petrol is 92 (our regular), and the higher quality blends are 97 octane. Back in the 1970s I used to run my car on 102 octane. Your regular (87 octane) is the same as the pool petrol used in WW2 It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Hunt Valley, Maryland, USA Regular Gasoline(87 Octane) - ~$3.69 / US Gallon Diesel (What I use) - ~$4.59 / US Gallon Diesel is significantly more than Unleaded Regular Gasoline, but my car (VW Jetta Diesel) goes 45-53 miles on a gallon, where the gas powered Jetta goes 21-29 miles on the same gallon. Thus the increased price is still more economical in the long run... Hunt Valley, Maryland, USA The back-to-back trials done over here by motoring jurnos shows diesel power is cheaper, less polluting and gives better milage per gallon than the petrol-electric hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

DERV = Diesel Engined Road Vehicle Grasping petrol firms? What about the Chancellor, he has the biggest take in the price we pay. One other point I forgot to mention in fuel consumption is there is now no loss in performance with Derv versus petrol. Although this statement is about road vehicles, the BMW 535 3.0 litre diesel has a slightly higher performance than the 3.0 litre 535 petrol. For the diesel that is 0-62.5mph = 6.5 secs, top speed 155 mph limited Euromix fuel consumption - petrol 29.8mpg (UK gallon); the diesel version 39.8mpg. Also the emissions are cleaner, and there is no particulates due to the particle trap. As an aside - the Sebring 12 hour and Le mans 24 hour races have been won outright (1st and 2nd) by diesel power for the last 2 years, and for normal Saloon racing they are starting to enter diesel teams. In Reno Nevada, We are paying cheapest for 87 octane $3.79/gallon, as of this morning when I got home from work, this is from the gas station down the road from me. Mid grade, which I think is 92 octane, is roughly $.10 cents more than regular unleaded fuel. Premium is yet another $.10 cents higher. I've seen around town diesel fuel at $4.25/gallon. |

We went to $3.89/gallon in Green Bay, WI last night. I still saw a station at $3.79 this afternoon, but didn't need gas. I pity the long haul truckers paying $4.60/gallon for diesel, and having 200 gallon tanks. Really cuts into the profits... And a little off topic...heaters are $5.00 a pack...dang, I gotta quit one of these days... Clk2HlpSetiCty:::PayIt4ward |

Diesel is significantly more than Unleaded Regular Gasoline Speaking of diesel, I can only imagine what some people are paying to heat their homes... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |
