Some info please, from you wise sages and gurus.
I have just installed (yesterday), Alex's SSE2 opti app for my AMD 6000+ X2, and everything seems to be working. BUT, BOINC manager reports it as using seti_enhanced ver. 5.27, but task manager reports it as using the Alex opti app. It does seem to be processing a lot quicker, I'm just concerned that I will not get the right credit if it seems to conflict between the two versions. I followed all the instructions for install, my system accepted the 'net stop boinc' command, but would not restart with 'net start boinc'. I had to restart the computer to restart boinc and seti.

I'm running windows xp pro sp3 32bit. Any advice or suggestions or information or knowledge or opinions most welcome.

regards, Giz.

If task manager reports running the new app, I am sure you have it installed correctly.......don't worry about the version number reported........

Would the SSE3 app produce marginally better results?

From all the posts bouncing round here, I chose the SSE2 app because the testing done seems to point to the SSE2 app being quicker than the SSE3 app for my AMD X2 6000+. [edit] I'm sure someone can clarify this for me as well.
regards, Giz.

@ Kittyman - Thanks for the info, I have delayed installing an updated app as I seemed to make a real hash of it last time I did it, back when I had an XP3200+. I also had a faulty processor from overheating which didn't help, but that's another story.

The report of 5.27 is normal because this is the science app number that the Mac code uses. It is nothing to worry about. You will still get the credit you deserve.

Many thanks for the explanation. It was just that the instructions I read said that boinc manager would report that it was using the new app. Also some of the posts I've read on here said the same.

It's the version number off the most used BOINC app.:5.27,internal app.number {5.10.35/42/43/45.}And 6.1.0 and higher from Crunch3r's Web-Site.
On host's running WINDOWS VISTA(32&64), XP Home/Pro;32/64BIT.
I thought on Linux build's, too. No expert on Linux :( (One is never too old to learn*

Most, except the newest AMD(Opteron)processors, gain much computing power, by the latest optimized app.'s (J.D.Whale et.all, 'Lunatics' , Crunch3r's,sorry for names NOT mentioned).
Some 'older', but also AMD's Athlon (X2)processors, doesn,t support SSE3 & higher, but have other features. Check with CPUz, what your CPU support's!

And version number reported, don't worry about that!As long as it starts with a 5 it's OK !

You sure willget the credit you earned/deserve, for the W.U.'s you've crunched ;^)

Have a nice day, FJV.

Yup....SP3 installed just a while ago.....it was documented in The SP3 thread.....
Fred W. graphed the results in the week or so following my update, and found no appreciable difference in crunch times after the update.......but that does not mean that other Windows apps or the system in general might not see some benefit from it.....
And the kitties meow back at ya.....

Seems to be difficult . . . Learned English in a few year's and by a lot off practice through forum's etc. ;^)

There is a lot of talk nowadays about optimized applications. Can somebody point out to me what is the most optimized version for a Intel Q-6600 running on 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04?
Please tell me where to find it and also how to install it. I don't want to do anything wrong here.

Thanks a lot.

When running stock, the Scheduler tells the BOINC core client which version of setiathome_enhanced should be used to crunch each WU. All work you had downloaded while running stock was assigned to be done with 5.27, and the app_info.xml supplied with the optimized apps indicates it can do that work, so BOINC continues to show that version. (If app_info didn't, the Core client would have kept and used the stock app until that work was complete).

All work downloaded after the optimized app is installed will be assigned to the highest version number that app_info.xml lists; that work will show as being done by version 5.28. It matches the highest version in the 2.4V app_info.xml so those upgrading from that will also transition immediately.

There is a way to add a "friendly" name to app_info.xml which would replace the simple name and version, but it would be additional work to add it and I'm not absolutely sure it wouldn't cause problems with some of the old BOINC versions still in use with this project. In any case, the version shown has absolutely no effect on validation; only the signals in the uploaded result are used to determine whether you get credit or not.

Latest Linux optimized app can be found here. There hasn't been a release of a linux port of the Alex V8 yet, but Crunch3r had been working on one a while back.
