It's Garfield's 30th Birthday today!

30 years of Garfield.

Unfortunately....that means the time is going to come, all too soon, that Jim Davis is going to retire. That will be a sad day.

Yes. But ya never know......Charlie Schultz kept on going until he simply could not anymore....it was his life. And he shall always be remembered.

Did you ever take on a 'project kitty'?....

Tip for kitty lovers.....

My Tigger II was always a little standoffish....very independent......
A few weeks ago, I started forcing her to sit or lay down with me and let me pet her gently......the change has been amazing....
Not that I ever ignored her, just let her go her own way.....

But I have said this here before.....kitties give what they get....she is now laying here at my feet, just sooooooo happy to be with me.....

If any of you has a kitty that you wish was a bit more receiving of your attention....try it for a few weeks.

You don't wanna get too forceful about it, but make kitty sit and let you give her (or him) some very gentle petting...neck scratching and chin rubbing seem to be favs......and you might be surprised if you don't have a new kitty friend after a few weeks of 'luv treatments'....

Same thing happened with Lori's new kitty Starbucks.....
The shelter insisted that he wasn't a lap kitty and was very independent....
After a few weeks in his new home, with proper attention to his kitty needs...he is the most loving kitty you could imagine. No longer hangs out in the basement, wants to be around Lori, I, and the other kitties all the time.
He and Oscar have become best buds, and obviously enjoy each other's company....and his human slaves' as well.

I totally agree, Mark.

Mongo was always very standoffish....to the point that I nicknamed her the Creepy Cat Of Death. She would just appear out of nowhere...pet herself with my hand for a few minutes....then slink off somewhere.

In the last few months though.....she has become a much more friendly kitty. She has even gone so far as to curl up on top of my blanket when I go to bed.

It took her a long time to figure out that I wasn't going to do her any harm by petting her.

The best way I found to pet her before this recent rash of CCoD lovin' was to wait until she was almost asleep and just start petting her. That went a long way toward letting her relax and just enjoy it.

Kitties are very intelligent (and self-protective) beings......
But sometimes you just gotta teach them to let their self-protective nature go a little bit....then that unconditional luv mode of theirs kicks in.....LOL.

Funny thing is...she was never very vocal before....now she won't shut up half the time...lol

That was another reason for the CCoD moniker....

I just luv it when my kitties get vocal........their little squeeks, meows, and other vocalizations are just wonderful to the ear.....

The few exceptions would be a tom in heat on my porch thru the screen door in summer, and a few Siamese that just cannot quit......LOL.

my girls love voices themselves- and what amazes me is that much like a mother with her children, I know each voices- even in the dark.

Nieca is loud and boisterous- her meows are bold and loud
Sunshine is quiet and patient- her meows are more like squeaks
Athena is soft and playful- her meows are chirps and coos

Nieca's boisterous meows are clear calls for "look at me... look at me.. see what I can do.... see how cute I am."

It's not a cry for attention- but one to 'make certain' you're STILL paying attention. Oh yeah- and there's the " I want on top of the fridge NEOW!" meow.

I don't get this... Athena has no problem getting up there- Nieca who's been doing it much longer- insists on having a shoulder up first.

They were born to be loved kitties......

That is desperately sad. Can I please have the little ginger one? Oh if only.

People really should learn to respect their pets more and not allow indiscriminate breeding to produce little kitties that may well end up dead within hours of birth.

The latest news update on the Fond Du Lac kitty crisis prompts me to write another kitty poem........

From WBAY news......

"The number of cats found earlier this week in a Fond du Lac home is up to 210. That's about 40 more than first counted.

The cats were removed Tuesday from a home on Follett Street. Police say two brothers lived there. What they are trying to figure out now is how it happened.

"Right now it's kitten season so every single shelter is filled to the brim with cats," says Lucy Mathers, manager of the Fond du Lac Humane Society.

With 130 cats already at the Fond du Lac Humane Society, another 210 was a daunting revelation. So much that the Humane Society has to use a building next door to house all the cats.

"They all have fleas, they all have ear mites, so it's just try to set up an assembly line and get it taken care of," says Mathers.

So far, five cats were euthanized, but it's predicted 90 percent will be adoptable. Still, it raises the question, how could two brothers live in this house with 210 cats?

"I asked them and said how did this happen, because I was looking for some explanation too, he says well people would give us these cats thinking we would find homes for them and then we couldn't find homes and then it just blossomed," says Mathers.

The house where the two brothers lived is now condemned. We talked with one of them today and he said quote "we're not a couple of freaks who hid from the world.'" He went on to say they're glad the cats have a safe place to live.

Now, as some cats are brought to other shelters and continue being checked in here, it will be several weeks before they find a home. Fond du Lac police tell us the two brothers could face several charges."

And I say to the kitties..........to those 210 souls that so trusted us.....

A tale of too many kitties.......

By Mark S. Sattler.......

It's sad and it's true, but alas I must read
about hundreds of kitties who again are in need
of the help of the hands that we all need to lend
to those small folk that we know and the hopes that they send.

They seem like such a small trouble, and a trifle to some.
But these little lost kittens are now quite a large sum.
They came one by one, but went out by the dozens.
And now those caring at the shelter are overwhelmed by their numbers.

The toll on my heart is quite heavy right now,
for I can't take them all in, though I'd wish it somehow.
To have their cute faces looking at me in the morning
would make me quite happy.
If I only but could make the story read my way.

I have four grand kitties, and my girlfriend has three.
And they all have been rescued from a life of misree...
But seven is just not enough to be sure
that all kittens are saved from the life they endure.

A life not their choosing, but what they were born into..
A life you or I would not ever choose to live through...

Some will be saved, and some will be lost,
but what is the real true thing that we've lost?
Some trusting lil' kitties, through no fault of their own
Who we've brought into this world and then they were disowned.

My kitties, my friends, how can I ever say sorry
for the actions of others that I can't control?
For to save all your suff'ring I might well sell my soul.

The kitties have saved me from much toil and torment,
that I could not say where I'd be but for the kitties involvement.

I wish I had millions for to save the 210......
My soul would be happy, I could rest very well then....

But until ev'ry kitty has a true loving home,
my soul will be sad, and I'll make that fact known.

If you can help even one.....
your soul will be blessed.
I don't know how I'll ever get help for the rest.
They are there in your town
on your doorstep and streets.
An until we all wake up to their needs it repeats.

I had a great day today, yet now I am sad. I am already way past my limit and the sad part is the loves of my life, once they pass, will make room for more.
Heck of a way to start the weekend. But C'est la vie.

only be sadder if you have not made a difference................
