I recently tried to optimize using AK V8 for XP 64-bit. My system just downloaded about 200 work units. I got a similar error something like "[SETI@home] [error] No app version for result" and all my work units tasks disappeared. I wanted to get them back. I used my undelete program and stuck the files back into my C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu directory but I am unsuccessful bringing them back. Is there any way to get those tasks back? or do I just wait for the next day to roll around and get new tasks? |

As you no doubt discovered, simply undeleting the files will not make BOINC recognize them. Each workunit must be cross-references in the client_state.xml file, which can be nearly impossible to rebuild by hand. Even if you could rebuild it, they were already reported to the server as errors and will be sent out to someone else instead. Waiting for your quota to reset is about your only realistic option. |

Just a quick question. Have run stock for years on my P4 but lately used unified installer for AK_v8b_win_SSE2. Now discover machine supports SSE3. Will I get any appreciable perfomance increase if I change, and can I just install over the top without problems. ![]() |

Will I get any appreciable perfomance increase if I change, and can I just install over the top without problems. You'll get a performance increase, but don't expect a miraculous transformation. Someone else with a Prescott P4 may be able to estimate closer, I'd guess 5 to 10 percent speed increase. The installation won't cause any problem unless there's something very unusual about your system. Testers often transition from one optimized version to another, that's the usual case. Joe |
