Maybe running Nitpicker periodically in a batch mode would be doable. |

Maybe running Nitpicker periodically in a batch mode would be doable. Then it isn't NT! |

Then it isn't NT! True but it's results I'm interested in as I suspect most are rather than the form that is used. |

Matt has been talking about a way to reduce the current science database to 10% of it's actual size. He hasn't explain how he is going to do that. I expect some RFI rejection tool. Then, it will be much more easy to run a NTPCkr |

This thread was started in 2008. NTPKr hasn't really done squat. I am a Matt fan true and true but some sort of update would be nice. I know it needs better hardware and software but is there any hope for this or do we sit on the sidelines and wait for a NEW solution to do the analysis. The whole science of SETI is evolving and I understand that. Where are we in the evolution of SETI science. You gotta creep before you crawl, crawl before you walk, walk before you run, run before you fly, fly before you soar and soar before you orbit. I am thinking we are just learning to creep. Where are we in the baby steps we are doing? The GPUUG made things happen when there was an actual item that needed to be purchased. Could Matt or someone put out a parts list on a monster machine that would get the job done? |

I have no doubt that Matt could easily lay out the specs for such a m/c, but where would the money come from to fund its purchase? Already made it clear to the team several times that I'd be more than happy to raise the funds via matching fundraiser or equivalent as per Matt's spec. and cost estimate, so that isn't an issue. With the v8 transition, building instruments at Green Bank, integrating Breakthrough Listen and all of their other duties, I think that they're just too busy right now. So, I will remind them from time to time.... gently. :^) I'm working on a writeup of an idea for NTPCkr that I will shortly post in Number Crunching, perhaps this weekend... |
