Can you do it?

If it wasn't for the fact that I'd already set aside that day to prepare for my first IT Class Teaching opportunity I would, but I have Outlines and a Syllabus to prepare.

No, I wont.

This is the start of user militancy, getting many users together to band together to teach the 'Big Boys' like Facebook a lesson. It's the computer equivalent to "Distributed Protesting".

What's wrong with that?

Nothing, if fairly presented and if it's for a good reason. But I don't like the "Can I?" come-on. The fair question is: "Will I?", not "Can I?". The come-on is what makes me describe this as typical leftist militancy.

I'm not a leftist militant, so no thanks. I have no need to flex my muscles per se.

If on the other hand a big company like Sony decides to plant rootkits in our computers, well that's a different story entirely. That's a valid cause to support. I have and always will participate in protests like that.

That's just my honest opinion on protests.

I've already done it!
I just recently got back from a week long vacation and only logged onto a computer once during the entire time. That was simply to check my website and delete some spam postings. The rest of the time I didn't even go near a computer.
As far as shutting down my computers, no I probably can't do that since I run a website on one of them. I could shut down my "personal" computer but I don't do that even if I'm not using it as I've found it creates problems shutting it down and powering it back up so I leave it up continuously. (I have a problem with the motherboard in that it doesn't send the power on command to the pwr supply when I push the power button. I have to actually ground the power on lead on the power supply by hand *then* push the power button to get it to power on!)

I'm already shutdown, have been for some days, and will be on May 3rd and beyond. Nothing to do with this 'campaign', and unlikely ever to happen because of such a 'campaign'. Only because I have a need for it.

And why I am posting whilst 'shutdown' is because I just wanted you to wonder about it :P

I quite agree. Since I bring work back home, to finish, or, research, because I've nothing better to do! Would it be better to have large areas of an office building lit (for Health and Safety Regulations reasons) plus a terminal or two connected to the Main Server, or, just save the work files to a CD-R and go home, run SETI on 1 task at a time and work away?

I know what you mean about noisy fans; having 6 cats (err, sorry, 5 cats and 2 kittens, now) does tend to clog them up and its even worse if you have a CPU cooler like a Scythe Mine Rev B. Lots of cooling area = lots of places for cat hair to get into, which means a good cleaning is coming soon.

What do you think my chances are, of sending Microsoft an invoice for it's unauthorised use of my Broadband connection, and the invoice being paid?!

If this is just my PC's then no problems. If it includes the computers in my car, cable TV box and microwave oven too , then I'm going to have to opt out.

Shut them down all year.

Shut down the powerplants too. I mean, if we're in for a penny we should be in for a pound.
