I had to allow exceptions for ports 80 and 21 and 20 on the windows firewall on the 2003 server.

Pity. I take it there is no news as to when the Orbiting Fortress will be back in the sky? Been in Doune this weekend, home of the castle where the great film was made. Baking hot too!

Hey!

That war was over many years ago.

It's the French that are still fighting their 100s years war from long ago!...

:-p

[quoteNo problems, acessing it from Holland, some(parts)off Europe, France reported also problems.

Hard to figure out, what is going wrong? Can it be blocked, for some reason???[/quote]

As i said before i have problems and do live in holland (Amersfoort).
To make things even more confusing i only have the problem from my current work location (Amsterdam) not from home.

This has to do with routing and maybe it clarifies if you would know a bit more about how this is done.

1 you take an internetprovider so you can connect to the web.
2 the provider however wil not have any long distence lines and is buying bandwith from a local operator (like in holland KPN).
3 this local provider in turn contracts global providers for intercontinental links.
4 when the traffic has reached its destination it has been passed back to the local lower operators to be deliver to their client.

In schematic the routing to a webpage would go:

YOUR ISP ---> LOCAL OPERATOR ---> GLOBAL OPERATOR ---> LOCAL OPERATOR ---> SITE ISP

This means there are 5 companies involved (which can actualy be even more).
Somtimes the role of one off these is combined or provided bij some organisation.
I for instance am located at (when writing this) an educational organization (is ISP) connected to a national educational network (local operator).

A schematic of the failing route would be this:

YOUR ISP ---> LOCAL OPERATOR ---> GLOBAL OPERATOR --X-- LOCAL OPERATOR ---> SITE ISP

or

YOUR ISP ---> LOCAL OPERATOR ---> GLOBAL OPERATOR ---> LOCAL OPERATOR --X-- SITE ISP

Looks like I'm now not getting through also, drat, I hope it's just maintenance or something and I haven't fallen off the broken web link too...

Hi Jason,
too bad... maybe we should to copy the whole server anywhere to Europa, or Australia. I think the US-provider want money to go through...

Well I start my Linux admin course in about six weeks, maybe I'll scrape together some basic server during/after that time. After some kiddie managed to get on my network last week I'm not comfortable I would have the time, skills or resources to secure a windows server so It may end up a Linux variant (or maybe FreeBSD) once I've developed those skills. I think traffic wouldn't be huge for that site, but if it becomes a problem with my ISP, then I'll consider a commercial plan to host some of my other work (mostly electronics, no web page yet).

My apologies. I made an unjustified assumption based on your declared location.
I should have looked more carefully at the name.

But I thought only a red rose would take the comment as such a slur ;) There again, tarnishing a Scot's reputation by association with and English county... Mea culpa.

P.S. As a (lapsed) Lancastrian, I have to smile every time I see the first line of your sig :))
