5,000,000 - Target will be reached in 29.53 days on May 16 2008 Will see how it goes, I am in the process of upgrading my old dual core to quad. ![]() |

January 2009 for my Million ![]() |

Thanks for the link. It's going to take me just about 5 years to reach the 1 million! (I've been in it for 3 months) So my computers are basically Intel Pentium 4, CPU 3.20GHz And my software isn't "optimized"? So assuming I figure out how to optimize the BOINC software, can I expect twice as efficient processing? You guys who are reaching a million after just a few months, (JasonA, Fred j. & David to name a few) What in the h*ll are you guys running? What is it going to take for me to burn through 1 million credits in less than 1 year? -Gloves |

Thanks for the link. It's going to take me just about 5 years to reach the 1 million! (I've been in it for 3 months) The BOINC client software is not optimised, BOINC is only the manager for the science applications, telling your cpu's which project and unit to process next, and deciding which project to download from etc. There are recompiled BOINC clients that do offer a few more options, and for non supported operating systems. It only runs a few minutes a day at most and when it does run only uses a few percent of your cpu resources. The Seti application can be optimised because the source code is open. And versions for specific cpu extensions are available at http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html the site belongs to crunch3r. If you are not certain of your cpu capabilities then download and run cpuz, a link is on the right hand side of the download page. Then download the correct application for your cpu's, choose the wrong one and you either do not get full optimisation or it will crash. You should see a decrease in processing time up to about 60% of present times at the same angle_range (AR). If you do run optimised applications you lose the ability to automatically upgrade the application. You must therefore keep coming back and at least reading the optimised applications thread. It is a sticky and near the top of the number crunching page.
Running optimised applications on core2 cpu's mainly. Core2 cpu's are over twice as fast as your Pent M/cpu, core2 cpu's can contain 2 or 4 true processors (not HT). A core2 Q6600 quad, moderately over clocked, should get over 4000cr/day running Seti 24/7 using optimised applications. My similar Pent M is at hostid=4243080, but bear in mind it is on a desktop motherboard and moderately overclocked.
Sell your cpu's, motherboards and Ram on ebay and buy one or more core2 quads. This may sound silly but the reduced electricity costs will offset the losses. My Core2 quad computer with graphics card and six HDD's draws 145W only just over what your p4 cpu's alone use. Andy |

My average is 612 credits a day. No offense, but you must be using really outdated hardware. I'm running - only ONE part-time CPU ..and that CPU is about two years old already, and I'm getting about the same daily credits as you! (fluctuates between the high 500s and low 600s) So my computers are basically Intel Pentium 4, CPU 3.20GHz Ah...no wonder. The Pentium 4s are extremely ancient these days. Outdated and obsolete long time ago. Like others have posted, you can get an optimized app here; http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html I'm running BONIC on just one CPU only part-time: It's an old first-gen Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 from 2006 overclocked to 3ghz (a mild overclock easily attainable by anyone without any 3rd part cooling). My CPU is so old, Intel isn't even manufacturing new copies of it anymore. You can buy a far superior CPU to mine for about $200 at www.newegg.com ---- Gloves Q: Date when 1,000,000 is reached- 1848.05 days on May 9 2013 Taurus: Date when 1,000,000 is reached- 1596.35 days on August 31 2012 Like I said, I'm only using 1 CPU, only part-time, and a relatively low-end cheap one that's two years old. Might be worth investing in a computer, not just for SETI@Home of course, but for general usage; Pentium 4 is seriously outdated, man. |

It tells me I will NEVER reach 1,000,000 units. LOL While reading the forums, it seems some users have 1 or more MILLION credits. ![]() |

It tells me I will NEVER reach 1,000,000 units. LOL LOL. that's a good one, must have taken into account that by the time you reach 1 million these guys and their super computers will have already found all the intelligent life in the galaxy. OK, Time for me to look into 1, optimizing my boinc software AND Looking into getting a faster CPU. Something like a AM Phenom 9600 Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-core |

Gloves, you will need some more cores - the more the better! :) The power is the big thing - the intel core 2 quad has to be the best desktop choice for the amount of power you use. Plus you can over clock the heck out of it. I have found that Desktops tend to "burn up"/ "melt down" overtime so I have switched over to Data Center grade gear - if you shop around you can find some nice HP DL 3XXs for low cost - these are dual quad core Xeons - they crunch well and come with a 3yr warranty. (4 of my machines are DL360s between those I have 32 cores) Now I can't wait for the new 6 cores from Intel! ![]() |

Lots of millionaires, I think Intel has alot to do with it! But it's always been like that,I remember when all the hyper threaders ran classic. Target will be reached in 77.58 days on July 8 2008 |

I'm almost there...my RAC is re-stabilizing due to some upgrades and my OS X box running the Alex Kan Xeon client now, but it should happen in May sometime - BOINCstats says May 23, I think it'll be a little before that at what appears to be my new current pace of ~4000 points per day. |

Assuming that I don't convert my Core2Duo to a Quad, I'll be there in August. Good grief. I just rolled 8 years. Started out with 17,000 hours on a Pentium III @ 400mhz. |
