Just want to chime in on this......
And by all means.....if I am incorrect on anything, please tell me.

As far as I understand.....moderation of any posts or threads in the forums does not 'delete' them from the servers...rather they are just hidden from public view. That is why they can be 'unhidden' later if it is justifiable to do so...
I do not think the mod staff has the ability to actually 'delete' anything from the servers.....so I'm not sure that 'clearing space in database' is a valid argument.
Now the admins of course, probably do have that ability. But I have not yet seen any announcement of any need to free up database space by deleting any forum content.
Nor have I seen any input from Matt or Eric yet on the subject of diminishing post counts...
There have been some troubling database difficulties that Matt and Eric have been wrestling with as of late, and I am hoping at this point that some of the things we are seeing here on the forums may be an artifact of those troubles......

Agreed, Mark. :]]

This is NOT a moderator issue, I think we all agree on that.

I'm addressing the project leaders on this: Dr. Anderson and the project administrators.

I understand that you think my open letter is premature, but I do have reason to believe that longer threads will be deleted, or that this is the present plan. That's why I've spoken up at this stage...before the actual thread deletions take place.

Call it a case of "Clear and Present Danger" requiring an injunction of prohibitionon on the intended actions before it is too late. :]]

"oh well" what?! It doesn't matter to you?

Because it matters to me. :[[

I'm not trying to speak for you Jeremy, that's why I'm asking you. Is this Okay with you, what's being done, and how its being done?

Or not?

A lot of time has disappeared, weather it comes back or not, is to be seen. I don't believe admin deleting anything from the servers, I'm leaning towards the database problem. Although, I'm not a computer person to fully understand how it works, and I could be wrong.

If my posts are gone Beets, nothing I can do about it. Speaking up isn't going to change anything. Yes, lots of good conversations have been had here, but, its not in my power, your power, or anyone elses power other than the admins to fix it, and if they can't fix it, well, then they are gone. No matter how loud you speak, or how often you speak, not gonna matter my friend.

Anyhow, back to work and watching the post count continue to decline.

Now down to 11,220 from 12,150 this morning.

I am now another 930 posts down since this morning. At this rate I will have disappeared by Tuesday week, assuming a loss of 1250 posts per day.

Who will be the first to play with imaginary numbers, like -1?

Heh....if they are deleting " long " threads, then my post count is going to be in a world of hurt considering that the vast majority of my posts have been in my Myths, Legends, Conspiracies threads.

I should be down to around one or two thousand ( from almost 8000 ) here shortly.

Actually...it's ok with me. I rarely had anything important to say anyway..lol

I'm not sure what my post count was, but I wanted to post here just for the record.

Currently I'm at 1719 posts.

I didn't post a lot compared to some, but the joke threads that are here (one that I started) I would miss if they got deleted. I thought it would be a good way to keep a file of jokes, which I do reread and enjoy still today. Honestly, there's nothing more important than good jokes ;) How else are we going to keep people smiling?

Just been overto look at Ratava's posting numbers. I recogn he is down about 8,500 on his original numbers. He is now at 16,480.

Looks like I am down even more since my last post. Now 11,098, of not important postings.

Hi Stacey, you should be OK I reckon. It only seems to be affecting those who have been uncomplimentary about the management around here in the past.

It doesn't sound like that's the consensus around here.

Yeah.the bug seems pretty indiscriminate to me..let's not make conspiracies where there are none. There are enough people who do that as it is.

Here's something interesting to ponder.... I've been keeping an eye on the main forum page that shows the total post count for each main topic. In the last 3 hours, the number of posts has only increased (or stayed static in the quieter areas). Now, does this indicate that somewhere in database-land something is horfing up a hairball, or are we creating new messages faster than they can be deleted? Only your hairdresser knows for sure. :)

I think it is connected to what is going on at LHC.

No, I disagree. To be fair, it only seems to affect those who have been posting a lot. And you know my feelings about that. ;]
