I just posted this in my coconut-thread ;-) ..but then
i thought this may be a nice topic in itself.

A thread to tell about interesting historical
happenigs for every date the whole year ;-)

I hope you will post it here if you find anything.
And if you can come up with a sentence to tell "what we might
learn of it" , funny or wise, that would be really good!

--------

Todays date;

"On April 11,1970 the Apollo 13 spacecraft left the safety of Earth and began a seven-day ordeal that tested human ingenuity and spirit. Two days into the doomed mission (identified by the unlucky number 13) an explosion in their oxygen tank imperiled the crew forcing them to not only abandon the prospect of landing on the Moon, but also to battle extreme cold, deadly levels of carbon dioxide and more. Although it was one of the riskiest landings ever attempted in the space program, all the men survived in part due to the bravery of Commander Jim Lovell, who wrote about his experiences in the memoir "Lost Moon" which later became the film, Apollo 13."

Even if you can't land on it, nothing says you can't shoot for the moon!

;-)

You forgot to mention:

On 12 April of the year 1961, the Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space.

On 13 April the Jefferson Memorial is dedicated in Washington DC in 1943; and Chicago got their first African-American mayor ever in 1983: Harold Washington

And today 27 years ago the first operational space shuttle, U.S. Columbia, landed after her first test flight.

Mmmhh... the 15.th of April..

1865 - Abraham Lincoln dies after being shot the previous evening by John Wilkes Booth. The same day Andrew Johnson assumed the presidency.

(btw..Boot lived only 11 days longer. Then he became shot himself)

2008 - The sun is shining, flowers are blooming.. I guess the Spring has come ;-)

Bumping a good thread!

On this day in history President Abe Lincoln, reporter Jackie Cook, Chinese students and Jackie Robinson made news.

The website of the History Chanel does a nice daily film clip on events in history.

You can catch it here:

Enjoy! :]]

I would like to remember a day when I was living in Sheffield, UK, and remember being in a pub when I head this news. The Hillsborough Disaster was a deadly human crush that occurred on April 15, 1989, at Hillsborough, a football stadium home to Sheffield Wednesday in Sheffield, England resulting in the deaths of 96 people (all fans of Liverpool Football Club).

1930 - At the overcrowded Ohio State Penitentiary, 322 prisoners burn to death in one of the worst prison fires in U.S. history.

1972 - Apollo 16 astronauts John Young and Charles Duke explore the surface of the moon.

Hello all of you ;-)

Im not sure what to call this happening..but 23. of April 1988 was the first day the dark fell over the dark side of the moon. Thats double darkness. ;-p Does that exist?

1988 - Pink Floyd's album "Dark Side of the Moon", after spending the record total of 741 consecutive weeks (over 14 years) on the Billboard 200, left the charts for its first time ever.
