I would suggest setting 'No new tasks' and run out your work units before doing anything. Also, don't forget to exit BOINC from the 'File' menu.[/quote]
Something I have done in the past is to copy the whole BOINK file from C: onto my backup so that I can put it back if it all goes down the pan.
I'll try it tomorrow, it's the weekend here now and way past my bed time!
Thanx for all your help and be assured that I will recommend you as OPTIMIZATION CONSULTANT in future!
Good night.

If I see well, you are using Windows XP SP2 (32 bits) in your machines.

Try to use '2.4V_Windows_x32_....' versions, not _x64.

The same with BOINC, install 32 bits version not 64.

Your computer can have 64bits capability, but only under a 64bits Operating System.

Regards.
Logan.

Thanks again for the advice. I installed the optimizer, didn't lose anything in the process and was astounded at the difference but it was a false dawn!
The first two WU's completed in 1.5 hrs instead of 5.5 hrs but it turned out that they were short units. Since then my crunch times have dropped by approx 30 mins per unit and my creds have increased from approx 10 per hour to 11.5 per hour.

Well, the dying question is: Did the recommended client fix those WU that were stuck and being ignored? They should be crunching now.

Nope, sorry. They are just sitting there ignored by the client. It's crunching the more recent Woo's and the old ones are being deadlined.
Cheers.

Since you mentioned earlier that you have been playing around with different optimised applications, it sounds like you may have tasks that were downloaded at a time when one app was being used (and therefore "branded" for that app) which are now orphaned because you are currently using a different app. Unless the app_info.xml file for the new app lists what to do with tasks "branded" as belonging to the old app, you will get pretty much the behaviour you are seeing. You should also get warning messages about this on the messages tab of BOINC Manager.

You can check this by going to the tasks tab of Boinc Manager and seeing if the orphaned tasks have a different name/version listed in the "application" column compared to what is listed for the ones currently crunching. If you do have different applications listed, you do have about 3 different options for recovering the situation but first, tell us what you find when you look.

Cheers,
Gary.

The orphaned Woo's don't show on the task lists of Boink Manager or Boink View. They do however show on the tasks web page and are sitting there in my Seti Projects folder. As they expire and pass the deadline I delete them from my folder.

OK, sorry, my mistake. I had taken the earlier comment that the task files were on your computer to also mean that they were listed in Boinc Manager. The fact that they aren't listed simply means that the entries for them in your state file have been lost. Without doing serious surgery on the state file (client_state.xml) your best option is to let them time out and be reissued, just as you are doing.

Cheers,
Gary.

OK. Next little problem.
I saw on the Truxoft site that it is possible to insert instructions into the Global Prefs file to set the priority and affinity and return results immediately.
I copied the text into the Global prefs file but the client dosn't recognise the new instructions!
How do I persuade the client to read the new instructions?
Cheers

See if your results are reported immediatly (after 60 seconds since the upload).

It seems like 6.1.0 is overriding your globals preferences, what are different to the new features. But I think all is running ok...

Let me know something abouth...

Best regards.

I checked the task manager and the affinity and priority haven't changed. Nothing seems to have changed at all? It's all working exactly as before.

I'm using 6.1.0 and all works as must to do...

To see in the task manager if the affinity works you must to selecct the seti app, click your rigth button in the mouse, and select stablish affinity. In the stock BOINC, you see CPU 0 and CPU 1 is selected, with 6.1.0 is only one of those.

Yes, thats what I mean. I can change the priority and affinity manually but if the client was reading the global prefs then they would be set automatically at start-up, right?

The priority ever is 'low', but the affinity with 6.1.0 is one task for only one core... If you have two cores, one task is running ever only in rhe core 0 and another in core 1. Whitout mannually actuation.

OK. The "Set Affinity" is working but how do I get the "Set Priority" and "Return Immediately" to work automatically. The text is there in the global prefs.

Set the
'Computer is connected to the Internet about every
(Leave blank or 0 if always connected.
BOINC will try to maintain at least this much work.)' to 0 or blank to return immediatly (with an auto-delay of 60 seconds since upload for not having validate errors).

About priority... I don't know how...
