'...the power that one man exerts over another is always perilous. I am not saying that power, by nature is evil; I am saying that power, with its mechanisms is infinite (which does not mean that it is omnipotent, quite the contrary). The rules that exist to limit it can never be stringent enough; the universal principles for dispossessing it of all the occasions it seizes are never sufficiently rigorous. Against power one must always set inviolable laws and unrestricted rights.' Michel Foucault, (2000) [1979] 'Useless to revolt?'. In J. Faubion (ed.). Tr. Robert Hurley and others. Power The Essential Works of Michel Foucault 1954-1984. Volume Three. New York: New Press, p. 452-3. |

a bit old tho, but nonetheless quite actual: I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it. ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower Account frozen... |

There are only two types of people left in the world, those who are in such deep denial that they wouldn't even recognize a bomb if it blew up right in front of them, and those who are seemingly so aware of what's going on around them that they can spot a fire cracker a mile away and have the entire town evacuated in two minutes flat... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

"Lets' have ID cards, they will stop terrorism" We already have them, they're called a drivers license and a social security card... ;) (Don't let the recent propaganda fool you into thinking ID cards are something new.) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

The world has too many passionate people fighting for what is wrong and not enough passionate people fighting for what is right... Example: It's one thing to not help the poor or to be silent about it, but it takes a 'special' kind of person to boldly arrogantly and repeatedly proclaim justification... ;) (Am I allowed to have two thoughts in a day?) "Lets' have ID cards, they will stop terrorism" I know this is going off topic, but what the hell... I presume you are outside of the UK? We also have Driving Licences, National Insurance numbers (& cards) and passports, yet for some inexplicable reason the UK Government are pushing ahead with spending billions of pounds on ID cards that nearly the whole population has said they don't want. I have never had a problem proving who I am and those that don't want to prove who they are (criminals) will either obtain false ID cards or not have one at all. Sorry, as you were :D |

I know this is going off topic, but what the hell... When you understand how 'bad people' think, then you'll begin to understand my sarcasm... In every case, they offer you something worse than what you already have (especially if you complain), in an effort to make you believe that what you already have isn't so bad after all (no matter how reprehensible it may be)... In the end, things either stay the same or get better for them, and things either stay the same or get worse for you... Have you ever recieved a 'positive result' out of a legitimate complaint, nine times out of ten the complaint results in a 'hard lesson learned about questioning authority'... And the one time out of ten is usually just a 'staged event to win your favor'... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |
