I am considering installing BOINC v6.1.8 (I know it's not the recommended version).
I came across this article in the BOINC FAQ, I know also that this does not specifically apply to the intended version to be installed, but, due to the similarities of the new installation process that v6.x.x is employing, make this FAQ relevant?
Or, is the recommendation to clear my cache and reinstall afresh?
I suspect I already know the answer!

That FAQ refers to altering an existing installation.

You can install over the top of the older version, just make sure BOINC is completely stopped and run the installer of the new version.
