When I restart or shut down my computer it takes forever. Have gone thru msconfig in windows XP and isolated to BOINC. The problem started recently. Can anyone help? Could relate to a windows problem or Harddisk failure. Try to figure that out by reading your eventlog or better try to go online with safe mode pressing F8 key after BIOS check. When in Windows: You can type if you get that far in the startmenu, click on run and type chkdsk /f, say Y when ask for the next reboot, you'll trigger a checkdisk run from boot windows and gives you a report. Another way around is using BartPE or ERD commander, it's a build-in windows XP and you start it from CD or DVD (more tools in here), to check for disk/windows errors. You even can recover/backup your data in there. If you didn't find anything try, running ad-aware or other spy detecting software on your machine a virus check didn't harm anybody. Hope it helped! Does it help if you exit BOINC before you shut down? You can also use the following bit of code in a batchfile (.bat). Put it in Notepad, save it as Shutdown.bat (make sure the extension is .bat, not .txt) Do change the path between %PROGRAMFILES% if your BOINC lives elsewhere. cd %PROGRAMFILES%\\BOINC boinccmd --quit shutdown -s -t 20 Save it on your desktop. To start it, double click on it. (the 20 in there says to wait 20 seconds. You may want to vary the time) That won't help with your start up, of course. But perhaps you can delete the link to BOINC Manager from your Startup folder and manually start BOINC after Windows has fully booted up. |

Hmmm... I took a look at your host and something doesn't sound right here. Are there any clues in the Windows Event Viewer logs? Alinator |
