Installing BOINC as a service disables the startup prompt. If this is so, I recommend you to do the same as I do, click in defender to make it work in startup mode, just 1 click from your time..:) |

Any idea of how to tell vista to run it without having to manually override each time I boot up? I'm glad I could be of services to you. I run Vista myself, but I start it manually, Defender will see this as an alien (hahaha, we did find the ET in defender..:) application not certified with our Bill Gates, it's a work around I know. You could turn off or lower security protocol, but even I as a IT professional would not recommend this, you will attract spyware, trojan virus or other harmfull software. Maybe in the next Service patch (SP1) from Vista this will be resolved. Good tip ageless! Ageless is right in this one. |

Any idea of how to tell vista to run it without having to manually override each time I boot up? Vista doesn't allow any programs it doesn't trust to start up at Windows log on, so there is no work around for that, other than you starting BOINC Manager manually each time. If you want to have BOINC run automatically though, install it as a service. You will need to uninstall BOINC again, then restart the installer to get this done. It's the 3rd option in the list of possibilities on how to install BOINC. The service install requires you to have a password on your Windows Administrator account. |

I hope this will work: In the control panel, choose power options, see if powerschemes set to presentation mode, not shuting down HDD and Monitor. Try this if you will. Don't let the PC hibernate or go to hibernation mode, on thirth tab hibernation mode should be off (Disabled)! Kind regards, Mark Peters. [/quote] That solved that issue. Thanks a bunch. Now, any idea of this one. Just moved to vista and(vista 64 bit version boinc as well). Tried to have Boinc in startup but Vista's defender will not allow it to start automatically. Any idea of how to tell vista to run it without having to manually override each time I boot up? |

Temp does not exceed 145F. When this computer overheats it simply shuts off. (It was overclocked a bit too much, but I have adjusted it to keep temp to a reasonable amount with running Boinc.) The Boinc software is what shuts down, not my system. |

If you navigate to your BOINC directory, open stdoutdae.txt and stderrdae.txt, what are the last entries prior to such a shut down? Is BOINC installed as a service? If it is, you can tell the service what to do when it encounters a problem. Go to services.msc, right click BOINC, properties, Recovery. If BOINC is installed in another way, do you allow it to start with Windows startup? (in other words: Is there a link to BOINC manager in your Startup folder?) .. if there is no link to BM there, is it possible your computer reboots due to it having a (heat related/hardware) problem? Have you checked in Event Viewer (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer) to see if it's giving out any errors? |

Boinc has been shutting down unexpectedly. It will run for a few hours then without any notice will close down. Makes it hard to run when I go to bed or leave the house. I have to constantly check on the computer to see if its still running. Any thoughts? |
